4. you mean they are not hiring that walking black hole Kathy Griffin?
You mean I won't be able to watch her whinge on and on and on about her botox, her sex life, and the center of her universe -- herself?

Barbara actually hired someone with political views? Damn! Perhaps the rapture clock should be set back? :sarcasm:

What the heck was that? I was mesmerized for no more than 5 minutes, in awe of something so horrible. That was 5 minutes I'll never get back.

48. I like Whoopi... and Kathy G.
Yes, she is a little self-absorbed, but she also had the balls to call out the Today show right after they let Anne Coulter spew her vile against the 9/11 widows.

16. She's a comedienne, one
And her show pokes fun at the shallowness of Hollywood, two. She's hysterical. Sad you don't get her. In fact, she's such a classic working class Democrat, it helps me to see the problem the party has with the elite snobs. The same ones who sneered at that "Roseanne creature", no doubt.

27. that's just it - I *do* get her
she's just as shallow as the people she talks about. Oh gee, look at me, I raised $5,000 for a charity. But in the meantime I've made a salary of (put whatever amount she's made in the last year) telling people what a *wonderful* person I was doing that.

She's one of the very many NON-celebrity leeches out there that make Americans look bad in the world.

She's poking fun at herself and her life. She's showing the kinds of things that go on, what people really have to do to be successful in show business. Making fun of it, and herself, in the process.

44. Reality shows ARE self centered by their nature
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 04:08 PM by AndreaCG
You don't think Kathy Griffin knows that and is sending them up? Stuff like Anna Nicole and Paula Abdul's shows are ripe for satire.

Furthermore, not only is KG quite political (anti-Bush) she has done numerous charitable things like visit the troops in Iraq and put on those shows in the prisons and did meticulous research with the inmates so she could make the shows relevant to them. Do you KNOW how hard it is to craft a new set in a couple of days? Even 10 minutes worth of new jokes? I don't buy that she did them merely for the sake of the show. As for the botox and stuff, most modern comics talk about things in their personal lives. If she's self centered, she doesn't try to hide it. Let's face it, most of us are. I know I am. But I'm also a good friend, nice to my mom (mostly) and a concerned citizen.

I wasn't that familiar with her stand up prior to the reality show but I was so impressed by it. and her relationship with her parents and her assistants.

9. Whoopi is a little too mellow for me.
I saw her cohost one time when Elisabeth and Joy were arguing about flip-flopping. Elisabeth was talking about Mitt Romney and Joy said he was a flip-flopper. Elisabeth quickly mentioned John Kerry and an argument ensued. Whoopie said that two wrongs don't make a right and that just because Republicans accused Kerry of flip-flopping, doesn't mean Democrats should point a finger at Romney. She lost me then and there...

named a co-host also (on our local entertainment news this a.m.). Sherri irritates me to death. I don't know if I can stand watching Whoopi if Sherri is there. I like Kathy Griffin--it's weird, I'm a 58-year-old woman and I seem to have the same sense of humor as the male gays Kathy appeals to!

14. Meh... She was on the View as a guest host just a week ago or so, I was decidedly unimpressed.
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 12:48 PM by scarletwoman
In fact, quite a number of her statements had me scratching my head and thinking WTF?

She didn't come off to me as being particularily well-informed or well-spoken. She seemed to me to be a somewhat shallow thinker, basically making "conventional wisdom" type of pronouncements -- which frankly surprised me, as I had been under the impression (mistaken, apparently) that she had a bit more on the ball than that.

In any case, The View is a truly execrable show with only rare and fleeting nano-moments of something vaguely resembling worthwhile discussion. Just my humble opinion, of course...

She's a much more measured person than Rosie so I think she'll make the most important points and leave some of the conspiracy theories unsaid, as they should be if you want to keep your national platform.

39. I never found her overly funny or anything,but she's a smart,good person.
I remember first seeing her do her show on HBO like a hundred years ago (ok,the mid 80's) and it wasn't stand up but her doing multiple characters,a lot like Eric Bogosian, someone else I like. She was amazing, and I wish she had stuck to doing more of that (if she did more stuff like that,I never sa it,sadly).

She is capable of some good, sarcastic zingers though, and I hope you good people will report those directed at the moran back to those of us who don't watch. :)
