I found this in Al Jazeera, by Marc Seddon, UN diplomatic correspondent.

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/17AB677F-05D0-43A0-8B63-D607ED8D0F45.htmAs Blair was appointed Quartet M.E. envoy - solidly backed by Bush - many seemed to raise questions. A very swift shift for Tony.
Al Jazeera:
"The uncertainties start with funding, who is paying the bills for the former British prime minister's new job as special representative for the diplomatic grouping?
Tony Blair's seemless transition from prime minister to special representative for the Quartet last month was accompanied by raised eyebrows at the UN and within the British foreign office.
It also provoked outright hostility from the Russians.
Now, senior UN and British officials have told Al Jazeera that the US state department has been paying Mr Blair's bills, either directly or indirectly, via a trust fund." (my bold)
The US rejects the suspect. No salary to Blair from US or the Quartet.
Funding solutions for expenses are still worked on. Matter still under discussion also for Blair's office, according to Al Jazeera.
Now Al Jazeera doesn't name the senior UN and British officials who are the source of this.
But a question raises: if US and the Quartet have NOT been paying the expenses so far, WHO HAS?If the news was true it would be a blow to Blair credibility. He should represent the whole group, not just one side.
If it wasn't, it would be an attempt to hit Blair's image or to depress the Quartet authority.
What do you think about that?
