CNN: TSA knew 'dry run' terror alerts were bogus
Source: Raw Story from CNN

The Transportation Security Agency's national security bulletin issued was based on bogus examples that were combined to give the impression of ominous terrorist plotting, CNN reports.

"That bulletin for law enforcement eyes only told of suspicious items recently found in passenger's bags at airport checkpoints, warned that they may signify dry runs for terrorist attacks," CNN's Brian Todd reported Friday afternoon. "Well it turns out none of that is true."

1. Not to worry about what "they" say anymore.
Not a word of it is to be believed. Chicken Little, crys of wolf, whatever; it's all that seems to come out of washington's many mouths.

2. Exactly. I figure if someone in this administration is speaking, then they
are lying.

Kind of sad, don't you think?

3. So why do it?
Are they trying to create a complacent public by annoucing these bogus threats? They have to know that bogus reporting creates a high level of cynicism....it certainly doesn't do Bush any good, even if it accomplishes a temporary distraction. In fact, I think it undermines the whole validity of TSA and heightens the case of this administration's security incompetence. I really don't see the value of turning the terrorism card into a joke.

20. Terror! distracts from real issues
The stock market lost 800 points this week, the US Attorney General was caught red handed lying to Congress BLANTANTLY and then contradicted by the acting FBI director, housing prices have experienced their largest loss of value in a single year since the GREAT DEPRESSION, housing forclosures are skyrocketing across the country (including being up 551% in San Diego, one of America's wealthiest large cities), Rove was subpoenaed, Miers and Bolten are in Contempt of Congress, more kids are dying in Iraq as the war continues to spiral out of control, autopsy results seem to show Pat Tillman was intentionally murdered by fellow soldiers (3 shots to the middle of the forehead in a two inch pattern), and on and on.

And that was JUST THIS WEEK!

So, they need a distraction to take away focus from these issues which could make his last year and a half of corruption and cronyism more difficult.

Soooo, he fell back on old reliable. He screamed about Al Qaeda in Iraq and how 9/11 and Iraq are somehow related if you squint really hard, cross your eyes, spin around and drop acid. And he issued a bullshit terror alert to freak out the public, AGAIN. And it continues to work, albeit a little less each time he does it. Sadly, by the time it doesn't work anymore, he will be out of office, cashing in on his connections.

22. Yes, I understand the value of distraction to this administration.
But, the threat has already been debunked...so now it's just another example of their incompetence. They got nothing from this bogus announcement, except that the American people are a shade more cynical about their intentions. I really see no upside for them to create a meaningless and temporary terror threat distraction.

5. Something fishy about this...
For example, the guys who found the ice packs originally thought there was clay in them instead of the usual blue gel...but it "turned out to be blue gel after all." Um, excuse me? In what universe is clay and blue gel interchangable?

Or the people in the TSA may just be complete idiots--I love it how someone got suspicious because someone was caught with a block of cheese in the their carry-on...in the Milwaukee airport! "Hmmm, why on earth would someone be smuggling cheese out of Wisconsin?! That's it, I'm calling Homeland Security!"

6. NO! The bulletin was about 'dry' cheese.
They were wrapped in Wired Magazine.

Don't forget, YOUR safety relies on TSA folks making 400 a week.

And they are only following orders...

Bush is the boy who called chimp. NOTHING he says can make me believe we're at risk.

It's actually a bad place to be: we have no leader.

15. ABOLISH THE TSA!
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 02:55 AM by policypunk
There is no organization that is more representative of the state of fear that Bush has created than the TSA and nothing more disturbing than the fact the American people put up with it.

The behavior of the TSA staff I see on a weekly basis wouldn't be tolerated on the graveyard shift at Burger King!

And where the hell do they find these people? Is there an "crude racial stereotype central casting" where Chertoff hires these people?
I swear I had the "Get a brain moran" guy screaming at the whole line at Love Field, just incase somebody wasn't aware that bottled water isn't allowed anymore and was also hard of hearing.

And naturally the politicians who created this farce travel in private jets where they are not subjected to being screamed at, felt up and stolen from by people who are otherwise unemployable. Every government offical from the Shrub on down who travels in a private aircraft should be required to get the full TSA treatment before boarding their jet.

I fly atleast once a week between a job split between two countries and a long-distance relationship, I have very strong feelings about this and am sick of the abuse.

21. What a crock. Wasn't this important terror info released on Gonzo
testimony day? (The same day Shrub invoked Al Quaida 96 times in his speech.) They showed Grandma and her out-of-date ice packs on the news and it boggles the mind. They asked her if she knew Osama for crying out loud. Grandma said if she happened to be a terrorist and knew him, she wouldn't have told them. We've got a real brain trust in charge of security in this country. Now, pass me a slice of cheddar.
