New DU Group: Impeach Group
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 07:30 AM by Skinner
The mission of the DU Impeach Group is to discuss impeachment as a strategy for dismantling the power of the current administration. We do not want to debate the merits of impeachment, but rather the hows of accomplishing this. The Impeach Group discusses how to accomplish impeachment of the current administration, the most effective ways to lobby Congress, and Democrats who may or may not favor impeachment. Members are not permitted endorse or support non-Democratic party candidates who support impeachment.

impeachment, we should still see other posts about it in General Discussion and LBN; hopefully, for announcements of upcoming hearings to draft it!

13. Oh, fercryinoutloud.
It's not being shoved in a closet. Some members who are interested in Impeachment specifically requested an Impeach Group:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1455518&mesg_id=1455518

...so we created it.

Members can still post about Impeachment elsewhere on the discussion forum.

Were you suggesting an impeachment activist group or a separate discussion area for impeachment?

15. Impeach now
The reason Democrats should bring impeachment in to play, is to play the same Game As the Republicans are playing, Stalling for time By agreeing then disagreeing. The house could slowly string Impeachment hearings out till bush is out of office
Article 2
Section 2 The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

Congress may not restrain the president's power to pardon, except in impeachment cases:).

By bringing impeachment against the President and staff, and the Vice President, No one could be Pardoned, set the impeachment trail for Jan 5 2009. That way there could be no promise of pardon. Any plea of executive privilege would be considered obstruction of justice

in putting impeachment back on the table and then shoving it down the administration's throat, come on up and let's get to work.

Just take the elevator or the stairs to the top floor of DU, or use the convienent heloport. It's not down in the dungeon, it's up in the penthouse suite!

various view points, not let a couple vocal people dictate the terms of the debate.

33. We really need to except that
both sides have the same agenda. If they impeach or truly go after the wrong doings to the constitution, it will make the news where all the blind Americans form their opinions from. If that happens, it will show how corrupt the government as a whole is and eventually people will see our governments plan and will not stand for it. If you havent seen Aaron Russo's documentary yet, you really should take a look. Its not only about the tax scam its about the overall plan, which seems to be moving forward faster than I ever thought it could. I just saw on the news today two different reports about the so called problem with terrorists using the internet and how bush is pushing to update an old law. That menas that we wont be able to discuss things like this on the phone or the internet without breaking a law. By the time most Americans notice their freedoms being taken, it will probably be too late?

I am ordering 100 copies of the documentary and handing them out to some friends and co-workers, hopefully it will open some of their eyes. We need to get the message out!

Edited on Sun Jul-29-07 02:23 AM by countmyvote4real
How is it that when the margins are so tight (in the Senate) and essentially off-the-table in the House, this DU group does not allow any references to non-Democratic Party proponents for the impeachment of this malicious administration?

I should back up a bit. In my mind, Impeachment is about the rule of law and when confined to the rule of law, it results in the support of our Constitution. The exception is the impeachment of Bill Clinton for lying about extra-marital affairs. That was clearly political. And he was ultimately acquitted of high crimes and misdemeanors. He lied about an extramarital blow-job that killed (wait for it)… nobody.

Now we have the worst POTUS ever by many accounts. He’s clearly lied his way to the deaths of countless Iraqi civilians as well as over 3500 of our own troops. Why in the world would DU limit discussion of this topic to Democratic supporters? (Especially when there are so few supporters for impeachment.)

Impeachment in this case should not be a partisan issue. It’s about our Constitution. We (DU or whatever) the people should celebrate and champion any voices from across the aisle that support the impeachment of this tyrant.

So, please inform me and anybody else that visits this site why this is not allowed in this DU forum. Are DU and the Democratic party really that precious and exclusive?

I think otherwise, but I would like to know the rational behind this directive or more to the point, this obstruction to the actual impeachment of this administration. Face the facts. We need the other side to do really do this.

Sorry for pissing on the DU Impeachment group. I think I’m becoming more of an Independent by these exclutions.

41. Skinner... While I don't agree with endorsing another political party
to win any election, I think we have to push all sides to impeach and if that means crossing the lines to haggle their offices, I think it is necessary. The pressure has to put on all the congress... they are ignoring us.
