C-SPAN Promotes "Shooting Michael Moore"
Under the guise of "Book-TV", C-SPAN sure likes to find some of the most "interesting" people to give an hour of time to:

http://www.q-and-a.org/Program/?ProgramID=1138

Program Details

Watch Sunday, July 29, 2007, on C-SPAN at 8pm/11pm ET
Info: A critic of filmmaker Michael Moore, Kevin Leffler discusses his new documentary, "Shooting Michael Moore". Mr. Leffler says he knew Michael Moore as a young adult and attended high school with him in Michigan. In his film, Mr. Leffler examines Michael Moore's work while utilizing some of Moore's well known production techniques.

I just saw them promoting this with a picture of MM covering up his eyes and the "author" stating how Moore really doesn't care about the "little guy".

Ya wanna bet there's some big pharma or insurance company money floating around on this project?

Is there going to be a call-in session about this film? If there is we should try to get on and ask who provided funding for this little hatchet job.

4. Nope...Looks Like A Canned Interview
This appears to have been recorded...no calls please.

Here's the dude's website...

http://www.shootingmichaelmoore.com/

This really smacks of a Slimeboating...this guy reminds me of O'Neill and his lifelong hate to get John Kerry. Looks like his Leffler dude has had a burr up his butt about Moore for decades. Sheesh.

Maybe later it'll be fun to Google around on this guy and the people who are financing him...

13. Nice Catch
I was trying to do some basic surfing on the guy and the company that is promoting his films/site. Yep...the website is from 2005...and also cites the C-SPAN Interview.

Ain't it something they're digging it up. I guess summer fill-in programing is hard to find. :sarcasm:

after all MM has a film that is current, whereas KL is old newz.

I looked up KL @ imdb and there isn't ANYTHING on his film:shrug:

If I can devote more time to researching with ya then I will post back here. I hope you do the same!

5. Looks Like Mr. C-SPAN is doing the Interviewing...
C-Spans’ Brian Lamb interviews writer/director about Shooting Michael Moore on Sunday July 29 at 5PM & 8PM (PST): - A biting, colorful expose of renowned filmmaker -

Davison, MI – July 26, 2007 - Kevin Leffler is a friendly, CPA, tenured assistant professor, and founder of an educational non-profit, who is a life-long resident of Davison, Michigan. Leffler lives outside of Flint, Michigan, Michael Moore’s purported ‘home town.’ That Leffler elected to finance and create a documentary about his old high school and work buddy Michael embraces a rare sort of poetic justice.

Leffler’s Shooting Michael Moore reveals another side of Moore. We learn that while writing books and shooting films that expose America’s inequities and presenting himself as a moral compass, he abused the non-profit status, engaged in questionable tax practices, violated environmental laws, and invested in Halliburton, oil stocks, leading drug companies, and HMO-chains. Additionally, contrary to his public persona, he used and deceived both the “little people” as well as U.S servicemen, and Flint’s populace is still waiting for him to bring promised jobs.

They fold propaganda into BookTV all the time. I have to write to Lamb and tell him he can't call it a weekend of "non-fiction" as long as he does that.

6. People, may I point out that CSPAN, for all it's "neutrality," is owned
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 09:20 AM by Skidmore
by the cable and satellite media--the corporate entities who charge you for the waves that travel in the air? When people get on CSPAN and praise them for their work, the owners are laughing at them, and, might I add, all the way to the bank. They give the illusion of a free voice to grievances--serves just like the release valve on your mom's pressure cooker. Nothing free about it beyond their Gawd given right to freely line their coffers out of all of your pockets and your bank account too. That is the public service they do for the wealthy and their corporate face.

8. It's A Major Distortion
I'm sure if we did a poll, a majority would say that C-SPAN is a "non-profit" or "public" operation...similar to your local PBS or NPR station. But you point out that C-SPAN is a shell-game used by the large corporates that dominate the cable TV world to fulfill an abused franchise law that initially was intended for public access to the cable lines, but now has become C-SPAN's "shield" against any scrutiny.

9. Doesn't care about the little guy?
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 09:58 AM by kenny blankenship
Oh that would explain why Moore's first movie Roger & Me is all about how heartless impersonal big business has screwed his hometown of Flint Michigan producing a ghost town by laying off autoworkers in Flint and shipping the jobs to lower wage markets. And not caring about the little guy is why Moore's next documentary project (for TV) was Pets or Meat, a followup about Flint Michigan 3 years on and how people there desperately search for ways to make ends meet, such as raising rabbits, for the pets or meat of the film's title. As I recall, the last image in that film is of an enormous python bowing up to strike on a terrified rabbit, certainly a little guy compared to the snake, then biting the rabbit, then swallowing it whole. The rabbit was given no chance to run--that was one "little guy" that was not going to be kept around as a pet. The Big One, Michael Moore's next film documentary, had all to do with the same "little guy" concerns of disappearing job security and stagnating wages that Moore saw and railed about in the 80s, but this time during the 1990s under Bill Clinton's "Free Trade" Presidency. Moore showed the collapse and desperation he knew first hand from Flint writ large across the 50 states. Apparently The Big One was in theaters at the same time that Moore was on a promotion tour for his title Downsize This!, a book expanding on the same themes of the economic desperation of the marginalized and ignored working class in America. This guy just clearly doesn't give a shit about the common man, see?

And of course his most recent work Sicko exposes the rigging of the American health care delivery system to make millions for insurance/HMO execs by withholding medical care from the workers who're paying for it. If ever there was a film that proved Michael Moore is all about shafting the little guy and sipping mint juleps on the veranda of his plantation home, whilst enjoying the privileges he was born to by inflicting and savoring the sufferings of the common worker whom he spits on, this film about the physical insecurity and stolen health of America's workers must be it.

What a heartless bastard!

15. OKAY. OKAY. I was never, ever going to mention this but here is
as good a thread as any to bring this up. Don't hurl anything at me please. I went to high school with Dan Quayle. (Don't hurt me!) He was a friend of my older brother and was in our home a couple of times at least until my mother found out and that was the end of that. I remember very clearly she said "don't you bring that Quayle boy around here anymore because I don't like him." He was a total jerk super rich kid who drove a better and newer car than anyone and strutted all the time.

HOWEVER we were all different people in high school weren't we? I know that I was. MM is a different person now than he was as a kid and nobody could hold up to that kind of scrutiny over two decades of living and experience.

I also went backpacking over England fresh out of high school looking for Joe Cocker. Didn't find Joe but I did get drunk with his mom.

You forgot the "tag line" on the site:

Kevin Leffler... the Democrat who shatters the Michale Moore myth.

Democrat??? Another interesting find it appears Mr. Leffler at one time was under the employ of Weinstein Films...the same company that distributed MM's current film.

http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:NFEwgd7dpnYJ:www.realitytvworld.com/news/full-list-of-2006-2007-reality-tv-primetime-emmy-awards-nominations-5529.php+Kevin+Leffler&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=31&gl=us

Now if we can dig a little at the money...Quantum Films...a wingnut distribution company was promoting this thing.

Cheers...

28. I saw that too and thought, "how silly" because Michael Moore's
film reported what Bush did in fact do on 9-11. That scene of Bush reading My Pet Goat was out on the web long before Fahrenheit 9-11. How is Michael Moore responsible for what George Bush did in front of TV cameras? There were no hidden cameras, Bush was in that school for a Rove-inspired photo-op, and he got caught acting like anything but a leader.

30. Shooting Michael Moore
A college professor and CPA who attended high school with
Michael Moore makes his own documentary about the filmmaker,
spending his own money to attempt to set the record(s)
straight. Pretty compelling - why didn't others verify Moore's
documentaries this way?

31. Just what records did he "set straight" ?
That Moore lives in an expensive apt in NYC that has a concierge screening visitors ? Who among us would not do that if we were rich and famous?

That he had his film festival in Travers City near where he lives now instead of in Flint ? So, what ?

Like I said, it smacked of sour grapes. I couldn't watch too much of it - so if the CPA really did "set the record stright" - please enlighten us.

BTW AFAIK, all the facts in Moore's films were fact-checked

33. Putting on Flame Retardant Suit....
Edited on Mon Jul-30-07 11:36 AM by TNOE
I saw the interview - and, well, I found the guy to be very credible - he is a college professor and a CPA. If his allegations are true - than MM has gone a little power/money hungry - and hasn't actually lived up to his hype. I'm a huge Michael Moore fan - but no one is perfect - and if what this guy is saying is true - MM did pull some dirty stunts.

(1) - the "rabbit lady" in F911 - apparently - supposedly - and according to the actual rabbit lady - before the opening of F911, Moore stuck a form in front of her to "sign" to which he gave her a $100 bill and promised a ride in the limo to the opening. By her own accounts, she can barely read - if at all, so she didn't know what she was signing, just what they told her - that it was to ride in the limo. In essence, the form was her signing away all her rights to any profit from the movie. All she ever received was the $100.

(2) - there was another man to whom MM did the same thing (gave $100, offered a ride in the limo & for him to sign off - he refused) - he sued MM & won although the "settlement" is confidential.

These were only 2 instances - but pretty dirty tricks. Apparently the 1 recruiter he interviewed for F911 was told he was doing a documentary for the Discovery Channel. Same with a wounded soldier - MM invertviewed while he was drugged up - the guy didn't lose his arms in combat but fixing an armoured vehicle.

I don't know, MM has still done alot to be proud of - and alot of good - I guess the bottom line is - he's not perfect and he's made lots of money - and money talks.
