Although I consider all the fashion police noise made against HRC to be absolute BS,
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 01:01 PM by tblue37
I just want to point out that if they want to make a lot of noise about it, they should worry about the potential first lady candidate that would come along with their beloved Fred Thompson:

Sorry--I don't know how to cut the first photo off from the other two of Jeri Kehn, but the first one really puts HRC's "cleavage" in perspective, doesn't it?

I do not support HRC for the Dem nomination, though of course I would support her for the general election, but I am really pissed at the way the fashion and hair police keep going after her. Once Bill Maher commented on the "cheesy tit dresses" worn by Hollywood celebrities on the red carpet at award shows. I was very much amused by that comment, to be honest, and when I saw this picture of Jeri Kehn, Maher's remark immediately popped into my head. Kehn's fashion choices don't really bother me, or even interest either, but if he gets their nomination, the fact that they attack HRC this way will make her fair game, especially since she is definitely a major force in his campaign and would be a politically influential first lady if he should win.
It also ignited speculation in Republican circles about who is really in charge, and in particular about the extent of the role being played by Mr. Thompson’s wife, Jeri Kehn Thompson, a former political operative.

1. I retired from a top tier fashion/society magazine here in Palm Beach.
I have been so pleased with HRC and her "look." Classy, understated, hair perfect and makeup lovely. I've been with the experts on this folks, we photographed everyone from Sophia Loren to Ivanka Trump and HRC is right up there with them. To my eye she has dropped a few pounds, her suits/jackets are perfect for her body shape. Whoever is in charge of this aspect of her appearance deserves many kudos... Go Hill...

2. That's my take on it, as well
as I have never seen her dressed as anything but a perfect lady.

The right wing fashion police are twisting themselves into pretzels over nothing.

6. Were you angry when the same author called Condi Rice's outfit "Dominatrix"?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A51640-2005Feb24.html

Or when she said this about Cheney and his parka?

Her take on Vice President Cheney at the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz last January: “Cheney stood out in a sea of black-coated world leaders because he was wearing an olive drab parka with a fur-trimmed hood. It is embroidered with his name.”

Says Givhan, “Imagine you are burying your mother, and a friend shows up in a Bozo suit.”

Or when she said Alito's wife's suit at his swearing in looked like "upholstery that once covered La-Z-Boys"?

his clothes at a state funeral is appropriate, but I would just as soon not hear about Condi's "dominatrix" outfits or other fashion tsk-tsking about what women in politics wear, unless it really is over-the-top inappropriate. But if the RW blogs are going to freak out over HRC's clothes or her hairstyles, then RW women should be subjected to the same sort of critique.

The fact that Jeri Kehn wears dresses like that for Hollywood functions is perfectly appropriate, and I wouldn't say a word about it normally. Though I do agree with Bill Maher's comment that these are "cheesy tit dresses," I also realize that women in Hollywood have to put their assets on display. It is, quite simply, part of their job.

Of course, I assume she would not dress like that as first lady, if Thompson managed to get elected, but of course if she did, I would consider criticism of her clothing to be appropriate, just as I consider criticism of Cheney's down-on-the-farm/wood-chopping look at a state funeral to be appropriate.

15. Cheney's parka was completely inappropriate to the occasion
I didn't see Rice's outfit, so I have no comment. However, dressing down to that extent was a slap in the face to everyone else at such a somber occasion.

Cheney was a clod for doing so.

3. Oh, yeah. I thinks she looks great. I also think Pelosi looks great.
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 01:42 PM by tblue37
Compare those two to frumpy Elizabeth Dole, with her concrete power hairdo and her Republican red suits, or Harriet Meiers, with her frizzy hair and Mamie Eisenhower bangs. I would much rather see HRC and Pelosi on my TV and in newspaper photos. I hate that female politicians get judged on fashion and style, but I really do think our top ladies look fabulous.

5. Nice job!
Anyway, I agree with you, HRC has adopted a very classy look that suits both her face and body.

10. I think her taste is a bit odd, but certainly proper for her position.
I'm thinking of that era when she was wearing pastel sweaters tied over her shoulders in the black pantsuit. And her color choice is certainly unique. But then Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer and Pelosi have certain fashion quirks, too. Pelosi wears Armani and is reported to buy what her husband picks out for her.

Remember Tipper's style? That was very different from any of the senators.

13. Tipper jiggled and I just loved it! She was campaigning in New Orleans
during the 2000 campaign. It was hot and she was wearing a lightweight top. As she hopped off the trolley she had helped to drive, there was the jiggle. It wasn't awful; it was nice. Now, before you get started, I am a 67 year old grandma of 4.

I always thought Tipper was pretty in a refreshingly natural way.
