War prompts top fundraiser to boycott Dems
Submitted by davidswanson on Sat, 2007-07-28 03:57. Elections

By Tamara Lytle, OrlandoSentinel.com

Through the years, Central Florida trial lawyer John Morgan has raised millions of dollars to support Democrats running for office.

But now he's so mad at them he wants to persuade his fellow big-bucks fundraisers to begin a financial boycott of Democratic congressional leaders. Their transgression? Not ending the war in Iraq.

"I'm not going to put my money and my friends' money into leadership that is not doing what I think they should be doing," said Morgan, who canceled a fall fundraiser at his Lake Mary home that was supposed to raise $250,000 for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

"I worked hard to get these folks in power because I believe so strongly this war is a terrible, terrible mistake."

1. Democrats are the ones trying to end this war
Perhaps he thinks the effort would go better if more Republicans were elected?

He should support individual Dems and not the DSCC. There are a lot of real fighters in the House
who could use the money.

22. Yes but unlike the DSCC, gifts to candidates follow hard money rules.
He and each of his friends would be limited to $2100 per candidate.

7. You can look at this 2 different ways...
You can think Democratics are trying to stop the war, or you can see it as I do, Democrats have the ability to stop this war.

They have not listened to the people who put them in power regarding the right course of action. It's a conjoined effort.

I'm SURE the money will flow when they represent the people.

8. I know it is threat to withhold, and some do--but what you say--would it
be better if a Repug was elected is so true!

AND the SC nominees is at stake.

11. You don't end a war by continuing to fund it!
We have to keep both parties accountable. The scare tactic that if one doesn't shut up and support whatever the democrats are doing is going to elect repukes is worn out -- it permits the Dems to continue to enable and appease the war criminals without making the hard choices they need to make to effectively end the war. Personally I will only give to people like Kucinich and Gravel who do have proposals on the table to ACTUALLY end the war and occupation.

20. And that is why we need to hammer our REPUBLICAN congresscritters
hardest of all. They need to know they're going to have NO PEACE until they side with the anti-war Dems.

24. Trying...
Dems are throwing a weekly teaspoon of water on Bush's forest fire. Then when Bush says jump, they give him $100 billion worth of gasoline.

It's not gonna happen with that level of support.

Maybe THEN, they will start listening.

6. That won't change anything
Donations or no donations, it's not going to change anything. Without veto proof majorities, it's difficult to end the war. It's not as if the Democrats are just sitting by doing nothing at all.

"Whine. We don't have the votes so we plan on doing nothing. Whine. We don't have the votes."

DC Dems keep whining and doing diddlysquat on getting out. Such actions will make sure DC Dems have less and less people willing to do anything for them. No money. No volunteering. No votes.

Bet you now blame the voters for not voting for the DC Dems. The DC Dems refuse to listen to their voters and respond only with WHINE WHINE WHINE but still expect the voters to vote for them.

DC Dems are the ones at fault here. DC Dems are pushing their voters away.

18. that's such a cop out
how often do veto-proof, super majorities exist? Rarely. Last time was during the 1960s.

Bottom line, many of our Dems are bought and paid for. They enabled this war with their IWR and funding votes.

Money talks, their bullshit has got to walk.

Your likely retort: so you want repukes to win?
And my response, so far I don't see a fucking difference. The repuke executive holds itself above the law and Dems continue to threaten and talk. The interent/blogosphere was way ahead about stolen elections, the war, corporations, the MSM. But the Dems just wanted to go along to get along and since 2000 it's been a fucking disaster. So time to throw them all out. Save your dimes for yourself ... you'll need them.

No to DNC, DSCC and DCCC. Yes to individual candidates.

9. Let me tell you something about John Morgan..
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 02:00 PM by trumad
He's known as a local scumbag in these parts and a couple of days after 9/11...he had an artist go around to all his billboards in town and paint an American flag on the lapel of his coat. He's nothing more than an opportunist.

12. I expect most of the people holding these type of large $ fundraisers in their homes
Are scumbag opportunists. Both GOP and Dem.

And yes, I expect this Morgan has an ulterior motive other than the one stated in the article.

14. DLC is on NOTICE.
Do they think the people are KIDDING?

Even if they don't know politics, they know
BULLSHIT when they see it.

Cynical, give the 'pukes enough rope and we
won't have to do ANYTHING but collect the money
and continue the gravy train CRAP!

The people want OUT of Iraq.
The people do NOT want to enlarge "arena" of fighting to Iran.
The people are losing their jobs and their houses.

I think the Dems will "get it".

Problem is, the 'pukes are so LAME, the dems
could run a pile of crap and win in this cycle,
so getting a progressive in is unlikely.

We missed our opportunity in 04.

problem is, they probably don't CARE, because
a HAM SANDWICH could beat a republican in this
next race. (Unless the TV Actor decides to run...)

So they will continue to thumb their noses at us
and say ridiculous things like "We were DUPED!"

19. I dont know about the sandwich?
Wait and watch what all the sheep do when a popular movie and tv star enters the race, he will probably pull it off because the the democrats will be looked at like failures by the sheep because they wont get much done! You have to remember that its not just one team cheating, both teams want to be in the superbowl forever because thats where the money is!
