seems like nazis, fascists, dictators, banana republic second string thugs are all off limits.

i wouldn't want "most people" to close their ears or think negatively about democrats when i make negative comparisons between bush and anything.

or is the whole thing just a ruse?

is it possible that some people here on DU get offended when you say bad things about bush?

what's REALLY going on?

1. i would think there would be a difference between comparing
Bush to a Dictator and saying that we are now living in a dictatorship.

But at any rate it seems like there is no shortage of people calling bush all of those things and more, so I'm not sure what you are talking about.

6. Simply calling him a name is pretty much a brainless exercise.
Screaming "Bush is an asshole" doesn't take much thought, regardless of how passionately you may believe it to be true.

Attempting to "prove" that Bush is a Nazi may be fascinating in a tinfoily kind of way, but you end up looking like a total dick.

And what's the point? Bush is a horrible president, a disgrace to the nation, and a danger to the entire globe. It does not matter is he's a Nazi or not, and trying to make that point distracts from more reasonable debate.

15. who said anything about calling him names?
actually i'm all for that if it helps to concretize a negative reaction to bush whenever people hear his name.

and you mention reasonable debate. you cannot have "reasonable debate" with a right wing extremist.

the point is a war of ideologies.

do you want to fight right wing tyranny or be on the winning side of history? this a question people need to ask themselves.

16. The most historically accurate analogy is Napoleon.
Napoleon Bonaparte, the Emperor of France who said of his invasion of Russia:

"We have yet to lose a single battle, yet we are not winning."

(actually, frowned upon as it is, Hitler IS the most accurate comparison: He used a unrelated tragedy to justify his war, responsible for many multitudes of innocents that were of a different religion, and ordered his Generals to NEVER retreat from any battle... no matter how sound a military strategy it might be... to avoid showing "weakness". His refusal to retreat, fighting to the bitter end despite no chance of victory, cost him an enormous number of troops, weaponry, and expended resources that precipitated his downfall... a strategy he took by the way... from Napoleon.)

17. a post turtle...
I read this years ago and loved it...

A 70-year-old Texas Rancher got his hand caught in a gate while working cattle. He wrapped the hand in his bandana and drove his pickup to the doctor. While suturing the laceration, the doctor asked the old man about George W. Bush being in the White House.

The old Texan said, "Well, ya know, Bush is a 'Post Turtle.'"

Not knowing what the old man meant, the doctor asked what a Post Turtle was.

The old man looked at him and drawled, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a Post Turtle."

The old man saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain:

"You know he didn't get there by himself, he doesn't belong there, he can't get anything done while he's up there, and you just want to help the poor dumb bastard get down."
