US Labor Secretary Elaine Chao: The American worker stinks, can't dress or show up on time.
Mrs. Senator McConnell doesn't think too much of the American worker....

====

July 19, 2007 - In a recent issue of Parade magazine, Department of Labor (DOL) Secretary Elaine Chao lectures American workers on how they can stop losing their jobs to foreign workers: “American employees must be punctual, dress appropriately and have good personal hygiene.”

In the article, “How Safe Is Your Job?” Chao says U.S workers could lose a job to a foreign worker not because he’s cheaper, but because he has better workplace skills and discipline. “They need anger-management and conflict-resolution skills, and they have to be able to accept direction,” continued Chao.

This is the same Labor Secretary who led the fight to cut overtime pay in 2004, allowed meetings between DOL officials and anti-union consultants and virtually transformed the agency charged with protecting American workers’ rights into a compliant corporate lapdog. Chao even went after her own workforce when she attempted to outsource 250 DOL jobs to nonunion contractors.

so I guess when I had computer troubles and got some IT from India who didn't know what a Trojan Horse was and wouldn't connect me with a supervisor, THIS was better than an American? Fat chance! I called later to the same company, this time got an American, and told him about the first person, and he laughed so hard he fell off his chair! But he got up and quickly solved my problem.

It has nothing to do with promptness, appropriate dress, or personal hygiene. It only has to do with the almighty dollar.

"The first sign of trouble came last year when one couple learned their daughter had been strapped into her chair with a leather belt.

Since then, more than a dozen parents have removed their elementary school youngsters amid complaints about disciplinary tactics by one of the teachers at Hawthorne Valley. Punishment included tying the hands of students and taping their mouths shut if they misbehaved.

The teacher who doled it out, Claire McConnell, apologized, saying in a June 24 letter, “I am sorry for my disciplinary misjudgment, very sorry. … I request your forgiveness.” …

“We’re still working on it,” said Patrice Maynard, a teacher and mentor to McConnell. McConnell is the daughter of Sen. Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky." (Chao is Mrs. McConnell.)

34. Response From the United States Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao
The July 1, 2007 Parade article "How safe is your job?" omitted the bulk of an interview which focused on the tremendous achievements and competitive advantages of the American workforce and the many reasons American workers have to be optimistic about the future. The article did not reflect my message to Parade’s readers.

It is important that first time entrants to our workforce be aware that technical skills, degrees and a tight job market will aid their success but basic professionalism is also essential to advance and contribute in the workplace. These fundamentals – including punctuality and appropriate workplace decorum – will affect their future.

America’s economy is strong because America’s workforce is among the most innovative and productive in the world. As I’ve said many times before – America is a beacon of hope and opportunity throughout the world and we shouldn’t fear the worldwide economy. America’s greatest strengths lie in our democratic institutions, respect for the rule of law, transparency, accountability, and the most creative and compassionate workforce in the world. These unique qualities comprise our country’s strongest competitive advantage.

In other words, YEAH. I MEANT IT.

40. Does "personal hygiene" mean one must paint her nails...?
or can they remain unpainted? How about shaving the legs...um....wearing eyeliner....blush...and what color lipstick is best suited for competing with foreigners? Do I look more clean if I use a combination eye shadow or just one solid color? And what if I'm two minutes late for work because the mascara brush jabbed me in the eye as I was applying it in the car during rush hour? I mean, Ms. Chao-Chao...how do we know which to choose when punctuality and proper Republican "personal hygiene" conflict? What if I have the runs in the morning..and run to work anyway, so I won't lose my job to Mexico?

Oh yeah...and I'm a guy.

49. why -- would that be more valid?
:eyes:

Charlie Brease, the president of Massey Energy subsidiary Sidney Coal Co., requested that the Kentucky Coal Board relax its requirement of English proficiency so that the company could bring in Hispanic immigrant workers for training. “It’s common knowledge that the work ethic of the Eastern Kentucky worker has declined from where it once was,” he wrote in a December memorandum. “Attitudes have changed among the existing work force, which affects attendance, drug use, and ultimately productivity.” At the Board’s March 10 meeting, the proposal was not discussed, although the “labor shortage” is still being publicly lamented by officials and executives.

Publication of the statement last month provoked such opposition among miners that Brease offered an apology for his insinuation of rampant drug abuse. Subsequently, the media coverage has attempted to paint the miners’ opposition as racist and backward.

Most miners actually quoted in the press, however, direct their anger at what is to be another attack on wages and benefits. Homer Black, a disabled miner working at the Sidney Coal preparation plant, told the Associated Press, “They bring Mexicans in here, they’ll get ’em killed.” Of his co-workers, Black said, “These people ain’t going to put up with it.” Shannon Gibson, who had just been hired to work at Sidney, added, “They’re just looking for more workers who’ll work cheaper and longer.”

The workers Brease was slandering are mostly white. You don't have to be black any more to have this kind of stigma shoved down your throat.

45. Perhaps Ms. Chao would get on board with having the workers
housed in barracks in which they can pipe in the morning playing of the National Anthem after which they can all be led in government sponsored calisthenics followed by a quick wash and shave, as appropriate, before donning their citizen-worker uniforms and heading en masse to work in the corporately owned government offices, or government owned corporate offices. Should we all wear our hair the same, too?

That sounds so familiar to me.
