Official: $20 billion arms sale to Saudis in the works

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/07/28/saudi.arms/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The United States is developing a proposed $20 billion, 10-year arms sales package for Saudi Arabia, a senior administration official confirmed on Saturday.

The proposed sale, first reported in The New York Times, is intended to upgrade the Saudi military's ability to counter possible Iranian aggression in the Persian Gulf region, the official said.

"This is all about Iran," said the official, who spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity because discussions with the Saudis are still going on and the arms sale deal has not been completed.

Israel is expected to raise objections to the arms package, and has expressed concerns about previous Saudi arms deals.

The official said the Bush administration is mindful that Israel must maintain its "qualitative edge" in the region.

Saudi - Iran ties to foil enemy plots: Rafsanjani
Saudi Arabia-Iran, Politics, 5/15/2007

Regular consultations between Iran and Saudi Arabia would prevent enemies of Islam from achieving their goals particularly on creating discord among Shiite and Sunni Muslims, Iran's Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said yesterday.

Rafsanjani made the remark in a telephone conversation with Saudi King Abdullah. The two sides exchanged views on ongoing developments in the region particularly the latest situation in Iraq.

They discussed problems of the Islamic world and expressed hope that cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia would lead to settlement of such issues.

Rafsanjani said cooperation among officials of the Islamic world would resolve problems in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine.

King Abdullah said Iran has established a consolidated bond among Islamic nations and governments through its wisdom and farsightedness.

8. Well, it accomplishes two important goals:
1) To deplete current arms supplies in US and allow for the Arms Manufacturers to make more $$$
2) To help bring on the Armageddon between Shia and Sunni's in the Middle East

I'm sure there are other goals it accomplishes, those are the two that stand out. I find this sickening.

3. Of course, Bush is also arming the Sunni insurgents in Iraq who are killing most of our troops
The White House has learned that trying to keep it secret just gets them into trouble...so they keep their treachery out in the open now.

9. And what about this aid?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/6920988.stm

It's only $10B more.
<snip>
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has confirmed that the United States is planning a significant increase in military and defence aid to Israel.

The package would reportedly amount to more than $30bn (£14.8bn) over the next 10 years.

Mr Olmert described it as an important element for the security of Israel.

Washington is reportedly preparing a package of major arms sales to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states because of concerns over Iran's nuclear programme.

US defence aid to Israel currently stands at $2.4bn a year - the new package would amount to a 25% increase.

11. Saudi Arabia and Muslims aren't the 'enemy',
it's Amerikan conservative fascism. If the financial underpinnings of American corporations can be kicked out from those propping them up, there might be a glimmer of hope for peace.
