George W. Bush is the Pluperfect Essence of New England Old Money
Edited on Sun Jul-29-07 04:42 AM by QC
Blood bluer than the North Atlantic.

Related to the British monarchy.

"Summered" in Maine at one of the family's numerous estates.

Relatives thicker than fleas on Wall Street.

Phillips Andover.

Yale (despite shitty grades and mediocre SATs--amazing what connections can do, isn't it?).

Skull & Bones.

Harvard Business School (after he was turned down by the University of Texas).

Eased into one business after another by his family and friends from Greenwich and Wall Street.

Yes, we all know this stuff, but it's worth pointing out now and then, considering how many people are given to blaming rural America for the rise of such a thoroughly despicable man.

1. Their money isn't really that old.
Read Kitty Kelley's book.

I don't usually use the term white trash. But that is what Bush is.

I remember when Roseanne was still married to Tom Arnold. He said one of the funniest things I have ever heard: "We're your worst nightmare: white trash with money."

I never forgot that line. To me, that is exactly what the Bush family is. However, I think you can go to any trailer park or stereotypical redneck bar and find so-called white trash with more dignity and integrity than any Bush will ever have.

Once I told my kids not to get too full of themselves over their fine educations. I reminded them of the Bush family. I named another person, a family acquaintance, who is an educated blivet. I told them that there are some people with fine educations who are ignorant, and not all of them are named Bush.
