Brockton call of the wild drives off pigeons

By Kyle Alspach, Enterprise staff writer

BROCKTON — Bursts of squawking from a furious-sounding bird could be heard outside City Hall Friday afternoon, sounds that echoed off the buildings on School Street.

But there were no birds in sight.

For city officials, that's the idea. The noises are being used to scare away pigeons that have taken to perching on the roof of City Hall.

“The front entrance (of City Hall) was completely covered with bird droppings every morning when we came in. We couldn't even touch the handrails — it was that bad,” said Donna Daley, chief of staff to Mayor James Harrington.
