Question: How often do local police go through "Riot Training"?
by local, I mean a city with a population of a little over 200,000.

I'm curious as to the need for such training in a city that size. When I get some responses to this initial question I will elaborate on the reason I'm asking.

1. I think quite a lot.
They always have a training budget they have to blow on something or another, and riot training, SWAT, special weapons, etc. are :sexy." There are firms who make big bucks doing the training around the country.

2. blowing bucks...that makes sense
I was in the pub with my cop neighbor and he mentioned doing some riot/crowd control training recently and I thought, "What the hell?" I thought only the really big cities would routinely put their PDs through that. But your point sounds right.
