W: The terrorist network that struck America on Sept. 11th wants to strike our country again.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/07/20070728.html

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. This week I visited with troops at Charleston Air Force Base. These fine men and women are serving courageously to protect our country against dangerous enemies. The terrorist network that struck America on September the 11th wants to strike our country again. To stop them, our military, law enforcement, and intelligence professionals need the best possible information about who the terrorists are, where they are, and what they are planning.

One of the most important ways we can gather that information is by monitoring terrorist communications. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act -- also known as FISA -- provides a critical legal foundation that allows our intelligence community to collect this information while protecting the civil liberties of Americans. But this important law was written in 1978, and it addressed the technologies of that era. This law is badly out of date -- and Congress must act to modernize it.
---------
Our intelligence community warns that under the current statute, we are missing a significant amount of foreign intelligence that we should be collecting to protect our country. Congress needs to act immediately to pass this bill, so that our national security professionals can close intelligence gaps and provide critical warning time for our country.

As the recent National Intelligence Estimate reported, America is in a heightened threat environment. Reforming FISA will help our intelligence professionals address those threats -- and they should not have to wait any longer. Congress will soon be leaving for its August recess. I ask Republicans and Democrats to work together to pass FISA modernization now, before they leave town. Our national security depends on it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow, the terrorist network that struck America on September the 11th wants to strike our country again? I thought we were safer? So the neo cons need more power to SPY ON WE, THEIR ENEMIES to protect us from the evil doers, that's just fucking ducky.

Do you see the irony behind this ridiculous headline about the mysterious terrorist network that struck us wanting to strike us again? Of course you see the horrible irony behind it, that's why you are HERE, at DU.

Are we being prepared for something horrible about to occur, or are just being played like millions of chumps?

3. I will second that
The only way bu$h knows that they want to attack us again is because he/cheney are in on the planning

22. Unless you believe
that our own government attacked us on 9/11, we have to recognize that we were attacked by an organization that wants to kill us, regardless of our status as civilians or our lack of involvement in the ME. I know they "felt justified", but I don't share their respect for that "justification" (Prof. Churchill aside).

We may hate Bush. We may oppose the Iraq War. We may march for PEACE. But we should not forget that we were attacked on 9/11 as well as many times before that. And many of our allies have been attacked since. We should not sit passively aside and merely rebuke Bush, we need to do something to stop the people who attacked us before, from attacking us again. If it had been Iraq that staged the attack (it wasn't, and they weren't involved), DU would have little argument about glassing Iraq over. Just because it was an undercover organization that attacked us is not a reason for us to dismiss the threat. That simply plays into the hand of our political enemies.

Terrorism, and not just Al Qaeda, is a threat to our civilization (at least our "tranquility" in urban areas). Terrorism won't "destroy America" but it can make our quality of life much worse. Ending support for terrorism has to be a major national goal. That is all terrorism: from Skin heads (like McVeigh), to gangs (like the mob, Bloods, Crips, and MS-13), to international groups (extremist of all kinds from Muslims to Masons to evangelicals to whoever). We can't do a "Pontius Pilate" on this and simply wash our hands over future terrorism in our nation or even overseas. We need to take action to foil terrorists, capture them, and bring them to justice. Laughing at Bush's record doesn't make us safer and doesn't protect your kids.

29. Terrorism
Has been around for centuries, and will still be around in the next 1000 years.

We were NOT attacked on 9/11, the CIA and others (Cheney) masterminded everything
that happened on that day.

Do you really believe that people in the caves of Afghanistan/Pakistan did all of that
on 9/11? :grr: :grr: :grr:

"Scarecrows and magic and other fatal fears do not bring people closer together. There is no magic substitute for soft caring and hard work, for self-respect and mutual love. If we can learn this from the mistake these frightened men made, then their mistake will not have been merely grotesque. It will have been at least a lesson—a lesson at last to be learned."

2. His opening line has nothing to do with the request. Visiting the
AFB in Charleston has nothing to do with his power mongering. AND seriously, how fucking stupid are our intelligence agencies... we have CIA, NSA, FBI, Homeland Security and local agencies and world wide networking with foreign intelligences. They already spy on everyone, look at anyones bank records, watch our internet interests, open our mail.... How much more do they need? If something does happen, its on Bush's head... He's already spying on every person or group or interest that he wants.

I don't even know why they bother to parade him out for speeches, addresses or press conferences. He avoids questions, can't speak intelligently, and does whatever he wants un-checked... why even bother talking about it anymore... unless he loves to hear himself???

5. He let the truth slip out again: Yes the Bushies are getting ready to attack us
They need their Trigger Event to set off the Totalitarian State and they need it by Jan 20, 2009.

Or will they remain cool and try to slowly erode the government from the inside and stealking 2008 (is it possible they could fool enough of the 74% who are disillusioned, to actually make it close enough to steal AGAIN...I would hope not or we truly are screwed)

6. Gee, Georgie, I heard they were coming across our southern border
in a Winnebago, stopping to picnic and take photos along the way. He can invoke their name 96 times in a speech, but it's all a lie if he doesn't secure the ports and borders. "We're fightin' 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em here." News flash: "They" are probably perched on the edge of a Barcolounger in a Chicago suburb watching the stupid speech.

you fucking asshole. Why didn't ya mention the August 6, 2001 memo in 2001? Is it because your numbers were tanking and you wanted to Bomb Iraq into the last century so your oilshits could grab Iraq's OIL?

In a just world NOBODY would give that little fucktard a mike.
