Apparently though the things I want to write about right now are too controversial to remain on the home page where my longer columns go automatically as per the invitation of the administrators or to even be listed in the greatest threads by recs section.

I've seen a lot of dramatic "I'm leaving DU" threads and most people say "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out." But obviously you have a fan base here and you're milking it for all its worth. But sometimes the best goodbyes are done quickly and quietly.

Your piece was close to the edge but also rational and articulate. Plus if you consider that * is on 66% disapproval which includes 52% "strongly disapprove" and 28% "angry" (according to the latest poll I saw) then what you say makes a lot of sense.

60. OK, wise choice, like putting a really mean letter in the desk drawer

A long time ago I heard a story about a secetary who routinely used to put her boss's really angry letters in her desk drawer overnight and then show them to her boss the next morning after he'd had a chance to cool off and invariably he'd edit them to be less fierce, so I started doing the same thing. If I am really, really angry I will get it all off my chest in a letter or email but never send it until the next day.

A good night's sleep or a few days (or weeks) off sometimes helps put things in perspective, so enjoy your time off and hopefully you'll come back refreshed and raring to go.
