1. What is so hard to understand?

Specter is a Republican. He wants to run out the clock so that his party isn't humiliated even further.

He should understand, however, that the longer he waits the closer this criminal fiasco gets to the '08 elections; which is really going to humiliate the republican party all the more for not doing what was right and just in the first place by removing Gonzo.

Their goose is cooked. Maybe they are hoping that their necks will be saved by the rapture, DieBold or their voter caging tactics to bear them some twisted fruit.

2. So did Leahy.
Leahy said the same thing - give him a week to correct his testimony.

"I told him, frankly, I don't trust him. But in fairness, I've given him the testimony. He has a week to correct it if he wants. I suggest he consult with a lawyer as he does it. If he doesn't correct it, then I think that there are so many errors in there that the pressure will be very, very heavily felt, whether it's a special prosecutor, a special counsel, efforts within the Congress."

Then later:

MR. SCHIEFFER: All right. So he has a week here.

SEN. LEAHY: He has a week, but the testimony he gave is not truthful. I want the truth. That's all I want.

Compare this to Specter:
"Well, I think we ought to give the attorney general a chance to correct the record. "

What's the dif?

4. Well the OP made it sound like only Specter wanted to 'give him a chance'
When, as you say, it's the rule. Plus Leahy said the same thing.
