Health Department Warns of Possible Tainted Ginger (from china, has pesticide on it)
Health Department Warns of Possible Tainted Ginger

The California Department of Public Health has issued a warning about fresh ginger from China. The California Department of Pesticide Regulation’s residue monitoring program detected the presence of aldicarb sulfoxide in some batches of imported ginger. Aldicarb sulfoxide is a pesticide that is not approved for use on ginger.

It said the product was distributed to Save Mart and Albertson's stores in Northen California by Christopher Ranch of Gilroy, California.

CDPH and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are tracing the imported ginger from the importer, Modern Trading Inc. in Alhambra, California, to determine the full distribution of the product and to identify other retail stores that may have received it.

Symptoms of aldicarb poisoning in humans are likely to occur within the first hour following exposure. Ingestion of foods contaminated with aldicarb at low levels can cause flu-like symptoms, nausea, headache, blurred vision, which disappear quickly, usually within five or six hours. However, at higher levels, ingestion of aldicarb contaminated food can also cause dizziness, salivation, excessive sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle stiffness and twitching, and difficulty in breathing.

3. Well, one way of rebalancing our trade with those guys is if we stop buying their crap.
And that's probably not a bad idea. It's like they sell all their SHIT to us, from fake drugs to fetid foodstuffs.

I really do think we need to know COUNTRY OF ORIGIN on everything--this is just getting to be total bullshit!

4. "Christopher Ranch of Gilroy" - that's interesting. I just droped a jar of
roasted organic garlic and when I picked it up, I noticed that it was a product of China. And, it had Christopher Ranch on it.

I thought I would buy some chopped garlic to save some time and since it was in the organic section, I thought I was safe.

I think I'm going to call this company and I may just throw it out to be safe.

6. I'd throw it out.
Roasted garlic is yummy and really easy to make. I understand the convenience of prepackaged foods, but I don't think I'd buy anything consummable from China at this point.

11. China has taken over the garlic market
I buy only organic produce and even then make sure to avoid anything from China. Local is always best but with ginger it isn't an option in the US (unless in Hawaii).

16. thanks for the link. I just assumed the garlic that I was buying -- outside
of these jars that I just bought -- was from Calif.

I'll be throwing them out. Darn! I thought I was safe when I got it from the organic section of the market.

I bought two at whole foods last year, let them sprout on the counter, and planted them. I now have a pot full of it.

14. OMG! Is Gilligan OK?
I hope Mrs. Howell and Gilligan and the professor have not been tainted.

Mr. Howell (rich sob) can go to hell, though.
