Really, what's the difference?
From the way the Dust Bowl Immigrants were treated?

To the way immigrants are treated today?

To the way we treated (and still treat) our own after Katrina?

We really haven't changed any, have we?

2. The only important difference that I can see...
is that back during the Depression most people weren't in a position to financially help the Dust Bowl migrants.

3. Most people are living on DEBT right now!
What makes you think MOST people are able to help anyone, even themselves?

This country is BROKEN.

4. Yes, Capitalism has once again failed
The debt you talk about isn't overspending on luxury items as the media would have us believe, but families who can't pay their mortgages, who can't put food on the table - who are opening up 3rd and 4th credit cards just to pay the rent.

This is not good.

5. Because it's the richest country in the world.
I think you're rather exaggerating the financial problems of most people.

10. Oh? Time for a web search
to find out the average debt load in this country. Remember, people have run into trouble using their appreciating real estate as an ATM machine, and into trouble from everything from credit cards to those predatory loan outfits popping up like poisoned mushrooms.

People have compensated for wages that have fallen in real terms, leaving no disposable income, by accruing debt.

People who seem to be living the American dream don't know how poor they really are, yet. Looking at their net worth will tell you that.

11. Look, I'm all for tighter usury laws.
But there's a difference between debt and insolvency.

7. I think today-many of us have internalized the idea of the Fed . gov helping
those in need esp. during a time of natural dissators-----as more programs came into play last 70 years. And when they fail because of incompetaence or greed----we are outraged.

In the dust bowl days, these programs did not exist.

9. sympathy
In the great depression people had a simple christian sympathy for the less fortunate, today gated communities allow one to to totally ignore the poor and hungry.
