ABC "Wife Swap" right now: Freeper v. Hippie family |
|
You should see the look on the freeper mom's face when she saw all the peace signs....
I don't love reality TV but oh my god...
and the atheist son is about to grill freepermom after the break...

1. EDIT: truth to power, son is spreading some serious truth! |
|
If this is how we get to Middle America, I'll take it. :D

|
Freepers are truly a minority, IMO. Do you really think the freeper wife represents Middle America?

21. I agree, but I still believe freepers must be confronted directly. |
|
If that can be done tactfully, fine, but IMO it's more important to be very strong in dealing with them.
I was very impressed with the "peace" wife. Very strong, very intelligent, very forceful in a respectful way. But of course she was not dealing with Sherry very much. And Sherry was the freeper, not her husband.

28. I think the Peace Wife handled the Freeper Wife very well at the sitdown |
|
(Although, her meltdown in front of the KY neighbors kinda negated that!) ANYWAY: her approach there was great, as was Dan's interaction with Sherry in the kitchen re: women and their roles at home. Both times these approaches worked with Sherry. Being direct and being caustic and disrespectful right out of the box are different things, and Dan needs to learn that. I think Sherry could have been reached about certain things.

tact. They have to have the drilled into them and it comes to most as they get older. I remember when I was that age, not the most tactful when it came to the Reagan administration.

19. Sherry (freeper wife) is clearly extremely insecure. |
|
So much so that she has bought into the freeper propoganda as part of her attempt to create meaning in her life.
Last part is obviously just my opinion, but her insecurity is quite obvious, and I wonder if that's a common trait among freepers.

20. After watching most of it -- |
|
We have to take our lumps. Freeper mom may have had ignorant political views, but she was a good mom and was able to remove herself from politics every so often. Actually, both moms were pretty good, but the teenage son was just obnoxious. He was definitely what a lot of Middle America/freepers think all liberals are, and it's just a shame because a kid like that who has yet to learn social graces of any sort is not the face I want to show to the world. I think he had it coming a bit.

24. We don't know whether the son had any social graces. |
|
He may have not had a chance to put them on display in this context, since he was immediately confronted with a woman who had no interest in his views. Sherry was completely unable to deal with him, because all she knows is what she believes, yet she cannot rationally defend her views.
I believe the the son's parents are both intellegent compassionate people, so I am sure the son has learned to be respectful from them. But he showed no respect to Sherry and I can see why.

teenagers...all of her kids are quite little. Her unfamiliarity with teens probably informed how dealt with Dan. He was just an opinionated kid, nothing more.
I hated how the voice over guy called the freeper Patriot Sherry as if to imply the Minnesota family was not patriotic because they opposed the war and the Bush administration. Letters need to be written about that.

I wish she'd have asked them, "Since Jesus said to love your enemies - do you truly love Saddam Hussein with all your heart, as Jesus said?"
