How many more diabetics will have to get heart attacks before they remove the drug from the market? And since when is the New England Journal of Medicine "not enough research"? (Predicatably, that was what Glaxo-Smith-Klein had to say.)

Oxidative burden in prediabetic and diabetic individuals: evidence from plasma coenzyme Q(10).
Lim SC, Tan HH, Goh SK, Subramaniam T, Sum CF, Tan IK, Lee BL, Ong CN.

AIM: Individuals with diabetes and prediabetes are at risk of vascular injury. However, the exact mechanisms are unclear. The mitochondria mobile electron carrier coenzyme Q(10) (CoQ(10)) is a potent lipophilic antioxidant. We hypothesize that oxidative stress, detectable as changes in plasma CoQ(10) concentrations and composition, plays an important role in vascular disease in diabetes.

2. Since they know it is toxic, diabetics should refuse it. I know I am
I take glipizide. Which works well and I wouldn't take any other. I go on line an research the medicine after the doctor prescribes it, if I am not sure I ask the doctor why she prescribed it.

3. The serious thing about this is
The second it goes off the market, the lawsuits start. The FDA is simply protecting one of their corporate masters.

4. Exactly.
Meanwhile, some doctors will continue to prescribe it.

5. Doubtful they will prescribe it to anyone else
They are just going to quietly take their patients off of it and hope the stench goes away on it's own.
