3. Of course - the boss owns it. You only used it while the boss "lent" it to you. |
|
Good reason not to do anything personal on the company email.

They can even keep and read your emails while you're employed there - they own the email address. If they are classy, they'll return emails to the sender with a message stating how to reach you.

8. Yes, and that's one more argument for not getting personal e-mails |
|
at your work address.
Keep your private life at home, and what happens on your work e-mail won't matter later on.

Two things at play here:
1) Never use your work email for anything but work. It's rude and might get you busted. Use Gmail or anything else. 2) If you get some work-related emails after you leave, your boss should be able to see them and reply.

18. It is certainly true at my place of work. |
|
I rub shoulders with our IT guys all the time, and one day one of them told me that the FBI asked for our "cooperation" in putting the hardware in place to monitor every bit of electronic information that passed in and out of the place. The got everything they wanted without so much as a squeak of protest.
Hell, they rolled over for RIAA, why not the Feds?

It's really not a good idea to use work email for personal use.

I have an email address at my place of employment... I have never used it, have never checked it (I have no interest in even knowing how to check it). I have never given my address out to anyone because quite honestly, I forget what it is. :smoke:

|
Never use your work email for anything but work this excludes work gossip. Just like if you leave a job and you get mail, it belongs to the organization.

19. Yes. If it's a company email address...yes. But, if you're smart... |
|
...you'll either delete the email address, change the password or get IT to disable the email account prior to leaving.
A company email address is company property. Consider it so.

Never forget that. Be very careful about what you send on company email, it can come back and bite you in the butt. And remember, you can delete it from your email account, but it is archived on tape.

22. Yep - I handle cases like this all the time |
|
For our various companies whose website and email we host. A person leaves a position at one of the companies, and we normally turn that email into a forward that goes to some other employee's address because clients that the former employer worked with may not know about his/her leaving, and that could slow down their business.

Actually, when I left I set up my voice mail and email to forward to the most knowledgeable person still there. Unfortunately, most of them followed me out the door. It sucks to work for idiots, that's why I don't work anymore.
