Hearing on FEMA Preparedness in 2007 and Beyond

The Committee will hold a hearing entitled “FEMA Preparedness in 2007 and Beyond” on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at 10 a.m., in 2154 Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing will focus on the changes FEMA has undergone and not undergone in order to ensure that the federal government is prepared for and ready to respond to the next catastrophic disaster. The hearing will also examine the disaster preparedness roles for other relevant agencies within federal, state, and local government.

* Major General Terry Scherling, Director of the Joint Staff, National Guard Bureau
* Mr. Matt Jadacki, Deputy Inspector General, Office of the Inspector General, Department of Homeland Security
* Mr. Al Ashwood, Director, Oklahoma State Emergency Management Agency, President, National Emergency Management Agency
* Mr. Christopher Geldart, Director, Office of National Capitol Region Coordination
* Mr. Dewayne West, Director of Emergency Management for Johnston County, North Carolina, National Association of Counties, the International Association of Emergency Managers.
* Mr. Darrell Darnell, Director, District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency
* Mr. William Jenkins, Director, Homeland Security & Justice Issues, Government Accountability Office
* Ms. Kathleen Tierney, Director, Natural Hazards Center, University of Colorado-Boulder
