"GMA's" Robin Roberts Has Breast Cancer
http://www.showbuzz.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/07/31/people/main3116766.shtml

(AP) ABC's "Good Morning America" co-host Robin Roberts says she has breast cancer.

The Pass Christian, Miss., native made the announcement today on the show.

Roberts writes on ABC's Web site that she discovered a lump during a breast self-exam several weeks ago after she did a story about her colleague Joel Siegel, who died of cancer.

Roberts writes that she saw a doctor, had a biopsy and plans to have surgery shortly, as well as follow-up treatment.

4. How old is she? It seems that the younger patients are the more aggressive the treatment.
If she is not yet 50 and has no family history of breast cancer, she probably hadn't yet had a mammogram. Altho she said this morning that the mammogram she had didn't find the tumor, it was the ultra sound.

This is really scary. My two daughters are in their early 40s and since there is no family history of breast cancer, they haven't had mammograms or ultrasounds.

The poor thing; she said she would have surgery. I wish her well and hope the breast cancer survivors support network will help her during her ordeal.

6. Ultrasound and digital MRI...
seem to be the new technologies for breast cancer detection. Suzanne Summers had a clean mammo but found her cancer with ultrasound. I don't have a history of breast cancer in my family but I DO have a risk factor because I (like Robin) have never had children. I also have polycystic and dense breast tissue, which makes reading a mammo really tough. :(

Robin's cancer scare is a good reminder to all of us women we have to do our exams, have our mammos, and ask for the latest testing methods available.

7. Best wishes Robin
Her career has really evolved from being a local sportcaster to ESPN to GMA anchorwoman.
