Retired Army Lt. Gen. Philip Kensinger is expected to bear much of the service's blame for the chain of errors that followed the friendly fire death in 2004 of Army Ranger Pat Tillman.

At a Pentagon briefing Tuesday, Army Secretary Pete Geren was to announce the results of his review into how Tillman's family was led to believe he'd died a combat hero in Afghanistan though the former NFL player had actually been killed by U.S. troops.

The Associated Press reported last week Kensinger could be demoted to two-star rank from three-star and be formally reprimanded. But Geren could also appoint a review board to examine the matter further, defense officials said.

They spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision hadn't been made public.

As many as seven officers could face punishment for their roles in the aftermath of Tillman's death.

1. Amazing, when the lowest man on the totem pole
Has three stars on his shoulders. Pretty high for a scapegoat.

2. And punishment is only a demotion and reprimand? This better not be
the end of it.

4. Busted to Two Star General
and having to go through life with the pension of an O-8 does not constitute punishment to me.

Assuming the Good General did 26 years of service (probably did more) he will now have to suffer with a retirement pension of $6,958.00 per month.

I do not begrudge military personnel a pension (hell, I am one) but the issue here is punishment not pay, and once the General gets over a little embarrassment he will be fine and dandy in the long run.

5. He's still living and breathing; Tillman isn't, and it was a cover-up from
the get-go. Someone needs to pay for that. They deluded his family, us, and to have the chutzpah to think they could get away with it really irks me. We CAN handle the truth, and I'd like to finally hear it.

6. It's PR to cover up failed PR.
I'm sure the good general will suffer the torments of hell at the Officer's Club and golf course.
