Foxx, a Republican who has backed President Bush on almost every decision and action, said the events of the past month or so have put a black mark on the Justice Department.

Foxx has joined a growing number of GOP stalwarts who have come to believe that Gonzales has been less than forthcoming.
“Unfortunately, the Attorney General’s actions have not inspired confidence,” Foxx said in a statement issued Wednesday.
“In fact, he has lost the confidence and trust of the American people and squandered a real opportunity.”
Others, however, slightly disagree, such as Sen. Elizabeth Dole.
“While I have concerns about the Attorney General’s leadership at the Department of Justice, he serves at the pleasure of the president,” said the Republican, who has been among Bush’s staunchist supporters. “And the President alone can determine whether a change is necessary.”

Foxx stopped short of calling for the Attorney General’s oust.
