I almost feel sorry for McCain...
snip:
His staff drastically reduced and his organization nearly broke, McCain flies commercial instead of on private jets, carries his own luggage and relies on supporters to drive him to events, including one that pulled away from a Rotary meeting last week with a flat rear tire.

snip:
Now, the Arizona senator and Vietnam War hero travels without staff or with a single aide and rarely with national media crews. Last week, he arrived in Manchester, N.H., on a commercial flight. He carried his own bags through the airport and his top two aides in the state drove him to his hotel. The entire event was captured for local television.

snip:
Still, McCain's loss of the trappings of a top-tier candidate come at a cost. On Monday, he missed a fundraising breakfast in Pittsburgh because his commercial flight was canceled. He called in by speakerphone to the 30 supporters in a hotel conference room.

1. I keep wishing that he would gather up the last bit of self respect he has,
and announce that apparently his time was 2k, and he's done :).. finish out his term, and then retire and write a book telling us all the dirt he has on Bush/Cheney/Rove.. That might redeem his reputation somewhat.

5. He still thinks that the others will implode, and he'll be there waiting in the wings
and he's from "old congress", where republicans had their "turn".. remember Bob Dole?

14. Because for some reason his head to head numbers against Dems aren't that bad
I don't know why, but head to head with Obama and Hillary, he isn't out of it. Give a little home cooked terror attack, race baiting or sexist ads depending on the nominee, some swift boating, a complicit media and Repuke built voting machines means guiliani or mccain are within striking distance.

8. I think I would have voted for McCain over Gore in 2000
I wasn't sure about Gore at the time. McCain was the only one I really liked and I hated that he dropped out. Bush got the nom and no way was I voting for that loser.

Despite all that, McCain held my respect up until 2004 and he sold out. Never again will that man have my respect.

Doesn't matter now...because of bush, McCain and the rest of them, I'll never vote for another repuke. No way.

2. The "pundits" still analyze his candidacy
of whether he can recover, etc.

The simple reality is that what he stands for - right or wrong - is not what the Republicans voters want: no immigration reform and no continuing support for the war in Iraq.

But...bad shit happens when you sell your soul.

Didn't he ever watch the "Twilight Zone?"

11. McCain thought that by selling his soul to the chimp, he'd be
rewarded by the Bush Crime Family with support for his 2008 campaign. He learned the hard way that what he mistook for the warm embrace was actually the kiss of death.

in the same fashion.

12. Hmmmm. I'm trying to feel sorry for him. Nope. Can't manage it.
He was a real shithead when he was up on the Hill working at OLA, before he left the Navy.

I mean, a TOTAL shithead. A mean leader, a lousy leader, a rotten leader. Not a nice fellah. Abusive. Rude. Imperious. Hot-tempered. Not very nice to staff, certainly.

It's where he whetted his appetite for "public service." He wanted to be one of 'those guys' with the nice offices and the good parking spaces and the easy work hours, too.

16. I don't feel the least bit sorry for the man.
I just remember the families of the dead troops who will never see their loved ones again. I think of the kids who will grow up without knowing one of their parents. And then I remember that McCain by and large has supported this illegal and unnecessary fiasco of a war in Iraq, and I think karma is evening things out a bit for him.

If he had a shred of self respect or decency, he would drop out of the running for President, and demand that Bush put an end to the war in Iraq immediately and bring the troops home.

But he has no decency, so he should continue to schlep his own luggage and ride in cars with flat tires. It's better than he deserves.

18. Count me in with those who don't feel sorry for John-boy
Edited on Thu Aug-02-07 08:06 AM by BlueStater
It goes much deeper than his ego-driven, sell-out campaign for the White House. The man's one of the biggest cheerleaders for Bush's evil war and is responsible for every death which occurs over there. That little stunt he did with Lindsay Graham back in April was lying propaganda in it's most sickening form. He can go to hell.
