2003: Bush calls blackout (ours, not his) a "wake-up call", vows to modernize electric grid

Many have called it the biggest blackout in North American history. U.S. President George W. Bush on Friday called it "a wake-up call" and said the nation's electricity grid must be modernized. While officials were still trying to determine the cause of the power outage that affected much of the northeastern United States and in the Canadian province of Ontario, Bush said: "We need to take a look at what went wrong, analyze the problem and come up with a solution. We don't know yet what went wrong but we will."
