Fisher-Price to recall nearly 1M toys
http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/retail/2007-08-01-toy-recall_N.htm

WASHINGTON — Toy-maker Fisher-Price is recalling 83 types of toys — including the popular Big Bird, Elmo, Dora and Diego characters — because their paint contains excessive amounts of lead.

The worldwide recall being announced Thursday involves 967,000 plastic preschool toys made by a Chinese vendor and sold in the United States between May and August. It is the latest in a wave of recalls that has heightened global concern about the safety of Chinese-made products.

The recall is the first for Fisher-Price and parent company Mattel (MAT) involving lead paint. It is the largest for Mattel since 1998, when Fisher-Price had to yank about 10 million Power Wheels from toy stores.

In an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday, David Allmark, general manager of Fisher-Price, said the problem was detected by an internal probe and reported to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall is particularly alarming since Mattel, known for its strict quality controls, is considered a role model in the toy industry for how it operates in China.

1. Mattel toy recall - Fisher-price toy recall
Yeah, this is all going real well :eyes:

This keeps up and people may have to start playing/interacting with kids instead of burying them in consumer goods that are out to kill them.

Bet DEMs in Congress are to blame for this one too. ;)

3. Before or after the GOP took control of the Hill?

And it is the fault of the DEMs in Congress NOW! Everything else is pre-9-11 or history the GOP doesn't like to mention.

4. I'm hoping that Fisher-Price gets their ass handed to them in a class-action suit.
Lead poisoning leads to intellectual development issues in children. Fisher-Price decided to trade dollars for our children's health and they should be made to PAY heavily. I want management heads on pikes, damn it!

5. Excessive amounts of lead!
Does that imply smaller amounts would be acceptable?'
Our children's toys need to be lead free.

6. these bastards
I just spent about 30 min on the phone with my wife since we don't have web access at home going through my 18 month old daughter's toybox to make damn sure she doesn't have any poision toys....:grr:

It is high time that the gov't bring a big boot heel down on these bastards! "To promote the general welfare" is in the preamble of the Constitution and it better damn well start happening. It doesn't say "to promote the welfare of the uber-class"
