(ed schultz keeps reading off info on various states to his callers--which inspired me to look this up. if someone can find if and where specifics are listed please let me know-such as which dam is considered a high hazard dam, or which bridges are considered structurally deficient or functionally obsolete)

1. Will only get worse when the states begin to sell of the roads
to private firms for the money they need for other things

2. California
Bad News for the Golden State. There was a lot of talk about our 600 miles of levees after Katrina but nothing has been done as far as I know. Scary stuff.

<< Bridges
28 % of California's bridges are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete.

Dams
There are 44 state-determined deficient dams in California.
California has 336 high hazard dams. A high hazard dam is defined as a dam whose failure would cause a loss of life and significant property damage.
The estimated rehabilitation cost for California's most critical dams is estimated at $679 million. >>

I would love to hear an explanation of how a tax cut is supposed to help this problem get solved.

3. And it's getting worse.
The effects of climate change are not helping anything either. Alaska is experiencing serious problems with the permafrost thawing underneath structures. All the extra rain we've had here in Austin ain't good either. But we can spend $12 billion/mo in Iraq on a totally illegal war and occupation but don't have a dime to spend on our infrastructure. Then the repukes want to privatize the infrastructure on top of that. Think the corporations will spend money on maintenance if it cuts into their profits? I probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than seeing that happen.

4. What makes me mad…..

Is when repugs say when running for election “Elect me I won’t raise your taxes.” What do these people think pays for road repair.

8. I don't like the stats for WA State schools:
Edited on Thu Aug-02-07 12:38 PM by paxmusa
60% of Washington's schools have at least one inadequate building feature.
74% of Washington's schools have at least one unsatisfactory environmental condition.

My daughter will be attending a newly built school that will open this September--built on an old Nike Missile launch site.
