ODOT: 1 In 4 Ohio Bridges Structurally Insufficient

CLEVELAND -- Wednesday evening's tragic bridge collapse in Minneapolis made many people wonder about the structural soundness of bridges in Ohio.
NewsChannel5 investigator Ron Regan found out from the Ohio Department of Transportation that one in four bridges in Ohio are structurally insufficient, and 643 of the state's bridges were built in 1905 or earlier.
Regan also learned that Ohio has more bridges than any other state in the country except for Texas, and the state has more than 42,000 highway bridges.
In Ohio's District 12, which includes greater Cleveland, there are 900 structures that ODOT is responsible for inspecting and maintaining, 310 of which are over water.
The I-90 bridge over the Grand River in Lake County is an arch bridge similar to the one in Minneapolis -- and so is Cleveland's Innerbelt Bridge, which was built in 1959 and is a major artery for the city of Cleveland. ...
