WASHINGTON — More than 70,000 bridges across the country are rated structurally deficient like the span that collapsed in Minneapolis, and engineers estimate repairing them all would take at least a generation and cost more than $188 billion.

That works out to at least $9.4 billion a year over 20 years, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers.

The bridges carry an average of more than 300 million vehicles a day.

2. most of us have known for years that our infrastructure--ALL of it-- is in drastic need of repair--
but, instead, we are spending billions and billions in foreign interventions. one question-who was governor in 2005 when the MN DOT said the bridge had defects, but didn't actually need repairing?

3. My, that inspires confidence, doesn't it?
More than 70,000 bridges rated structurally deficient. And we just find out about this today?

I wonder what the number is for dams. Maybe we'll be lucky, and won't have to find out.

But as we learned the hard way, when there is an immediate threat it truly is immediate.

8. This story has been white-washed for your safety
If you google the story title, most sites now take you to this sanitized, more bush-friendly story:
