Our sympathies go out to the friends and family members of the Minnesota bridge collapse victims.

Malloy is on tonight!

Karl Rove is some kind of wizard. Not only does he harbor one of those memory-erasing machines from "The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" to use on Bush Crime Family cabinet members when they're called to testify before Congress, but he also has some kind of mystical pixie dust he sprinkles to make subpoenas disappear!

According to The Washington Post: "The presidential aide who acts with such impunity now has the ultimate protection: absolute immunity from congressional oversight, at least in the judgment of White House Counsel Fred Fielding.

White House political mastermind Karl Rove had been subpoenaed to testify this morning before the Senate Judiciary Committee as part of the investigation into last year's still-unexplained firings of nine U.S. attorneys.

No one actually expected Rove to show up. But Fielding's assertion of executive privilege yesterday to block his testimony was nevertheless surprising in its breadth.

From Fielding's letter to Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy: "Based upon the advice of the Department of Justice, the President . . . has requested that I advise and inform you that Mr. Rove, as an immediate presidential advisor, is immune from compelled congressional testimony about matters that arose during his tenure and that relate to his official duties in that capacity. Accordingly, Mr. Rove is not required to appear in response to the Judiciary Committee subpoena to testify about such matters, and he has been directed not to appear."

In support of his position, Fielding attached a letter from principal deputy attorney general Steven G. Bradbury, who bases his argument for Rove's immunity on a Nixon-era memo by then-assistant attorney general William H. Rehnquist. Rehnquist wrote in 1971: "The President and his immediate advisers -- that is, those who customarily meet with the President on a regular or frequent basis -- should be deemed absolutely immune from testimonial compulsion by a congressional committee. They not only may not be examined with respect to their official duties, but they may not even be compelled to appear before a congressional committee."

Of course they'd use Nixon as their role model. It was a coin toss between the Nixon strategy and Hitler. Looks like it was Nixon by a nose.

I do have some good news for Mike Malloy fans. While Mike had to cancel his appearance on the Unreported News Radio Show last Sunday, he will be on this Sunday. The host of the show is Herb "Sarge" Phelps, who has called Mike frequently. So, here are the details.

Maybe I should concentrate on the medical and rescue people as good representatives of leaders, but damn.

There's just so much corruption, it wears me out.

ON EDIT: In addition to all that, there is also an element of embarassment. Where were our engineers? Where are the engineering leaders? I guess ultimately reporting to stooges like Pawlenty. How disappointing for a smart engineer to work for such a 3rd rate jack ass.

128. The bridge collapse in MN has me quite scared. The Bayonne Bridge connects

Bayonne NJ to Staten Island, NY. You may recognize it, it was the Bridge that was destroyed in the most recent version of "War of the Worlds." Mr. smokey and I cross it everytime we visit his mom in Brooklyn. A few years ago, it was hit by a ship passing beneath it. It was closed for a few days. After what happened yesterday, I'm have another reason to dread going to my mother-in-laws

Luisa M. Paiewonsky, commissioner of the Massachusetts Highway Department, said the agency was investigating how the grate came loose. State Police were also probing the accident. Norfolk District Attorney William R. Keating's office said it was closely watching the case, but declined to say whether the investigation could lead to criminal charges against state agencies or the contractors involved.
