Speaking with a friend of mine today, who put some things in perspective.

Americans killed by drunk drivers in 2006: 43,000
Americans killed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005: 1,836
Americans killed by firearm accidents in 2004: 649 (source: NRA)
Americans killed by domestic violence in 2004: 1,544 (source: DOJ)

Americans killed by foreign terrorist attacks within the United States 2002-2007: 0.

Just how are we protecting our homeland, again?
