1. i wuz there. he was, simply put, superb.
but he also pressed a wholeshitload of responsibility on every single person there: you HAVE TO CONTINUE or else our country loses.

a hell of a talk, and a crowd that just loved it. there was electic electricity in the airs.

3. It was like the old Howard Dean in many ways....but even more determined.
I envy those who were there. I guess C-Span is only carrying the forums and congressional leaders like they did last year.

I am so glad they had the video of his speech up. He did put a lot of responsibility on us.

4. A Great Day At YKos
I spent the day running around (literally...McCormick Place is HUGE) at many of the seminars and great to hear the various organizations see the networking that was going on. Candidates, media, "guests" and us riff-raff mingled...a great experience for any who can get to a future YKOS.

7. Fantastic speech.

He's proof positive that the media has WAY too much say in who ends up as the final candidates from each party.

I firmly believe that if he had run in 2004 instead of Kerry, that the Republicans would not have been able to pull off a theft. I don't think it would have been close.

I wish the Democrats that attack him would knock it off. If they disagree, that's one thing, but being against him because he's not corporate, and because he thinks there are actually 50 states is not very Democratic.

8. Thanks so much for posting this link! I don't think I would have had the chance to
see & hear Howard, and I didn't realize KOS had a link to their conference. Oh how I wish he had been our nominee in 2000! Think of how different America would have been WITHOUT Shrub!

16. Good summary from Alternet
http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/58730/

"Howard Dean gave a stirring speech to kick off the Yearly Kos convention this weekend and here are a few highlights:

"Democracy is a value of the democratic party," Dean said. On the GOP 2008 presidential candidates: "Don't they look like something out of the 1950s." On the differences between the parties, he said "we're the ones who believe something is more important than our party, and that's our country.

Dean applauded the CNN/YouTube debate as a sign of the future and mocked the Republicans for refusing to hold one of their own. "It's ok to make politicians uncomfortable," he said, "it's good for us." Some of the loudest applause came for Dean's impassioned plea (echoed before Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) in a videotaped speech before him) for a "free, open, commercially unfettered internet that empowers people around the world." He argued that the internet could just be our best weapon in the battle for a democratic world.

Dean defended the record of the Democratic congress and concluded with the most intriguing part of his speech a call to look at the vital importance of young people in progressive politics. He talked about a generational change and about how young voters are embracing the progressive vision more and more with each election but also want to build bridges beyond it.

"This is not a one day or one election struggle, this is something we need to fight for for the rest of our lives," said Dean. In the end Dean brought the crowd to its feet and I overheard more than a few attendees lamenting that Dean, who was looking fit and supremely confident, wasn't a candidate himself this go round."

20. How in the world did a blogger get all this from that speech?
i listened to the whole speech, and maybe I just didn't catch it....but where in the world did this blogger get this from?

I can't imagine anyone thinking Dean was being racist in anything he said about the polls of young people. That is his job, to use data like that and to speak of it. This kind of makes me feel we will never get where we need to be.

"I won't lie; I'm not entirely happy with every speech made, or every agenda
stated, or every person presenting. But I don't have to like them all, and
with most of my life, I try to take what is helpful to me, and ignore the
rest.

Some things to ignore:

Howard Dean's vision of integration in today's society: white kids wearing
baggy pants, and his perception of a new generation of "colorblind" people.
Those of us in touch with the "brown blogosphere," (as some call it) are
aware that "colorblind" is usually code for "I don't see racial issues, I am
not comfortable with discussing these issues, and I'd rather we all just
pretend things were the same for everyone." This is a very offensive stance
for those who deal with the issues that a person of color has to grapple
with—which are not made easier by people telling us "I am colorblind." To
many, this simply translates as "I don't see the issues you face, or the
inequalities in society or law or government that may affect you deeply."
So a man like Howard Dean, with the influence, bullhorn, and power that he
has to imagine white youth appropriating black culture is somehow
"integration," and that we should all be "colorblind" does not comfort. I
know he means well, but even many white people who listened to his address
found these parts problematic."

It made me feel very uncomfortable. How do we talk about things like that any other way than frankly.
