Executive Order: Now your children lose their property
This is similar to the one about Iraq the other day. However, in this order your spouse and children will lose their property as well. Like before, this also takes effect if you are only viewed as a "risk" of doing something violent, even if you haven't committed any act! I wonder if any of us are viewed as a risk. Of course that is up to the "Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State" to decide.

Oh, and you and your family won't be given ANY NOTICE either. As with the last one, anyone who assists you also loses their property.

I wonder how much further the next order will go...

Executive Order: Blocking Property of Persons Undermining the Sovereignty of Lebanon or Its Democratic Processes and Institutions

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.)(IEEPA), the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.)(NEA), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code,

I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, determine that the actions of certain persons to undermine Lebanon's legitimate and democratically elected government or democratic institutions, to contribute to the deliberate breakdown in the rule of law in Lebanon, including through politically motivated violence and intimidation, to reassert Syrian control or contribute to Syrian interference in Lebanon, or to infringe upon or undermine Lebanese sovereignty contribute to political and economic instability in that country and the region and constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, and I hereby declare a national emergency to deal with that threat.

I hereby order:

Section 1. (a) Except to the extent provided in section 203(b)(1), (3), and (4) of IEEPA (50 U.S.C. 1702(b)(1), (3), and (4)), or in regulations, orders, directives, or licenses that may be issued pursuant to this order, and notwithstanding any contract entered into or any license or permit granted prior to the date of this order, all property and interests in property that are in the United States, that hereafter come within the United States, or that are or hereafter come within the possession or control of any United States person, including any overseas branch, of the following persons are blocked and may not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt in:

(i) any person determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State:

(A) to have taken, or to pose a significant risk of taking, actions, including acts of violence, that have the purpose or effect of undermining Lebanon's democratic processes or institutions, contributing to the breakdown of the rule of law in Lebanon, supporting the reassertion of Syrian control or otherwise contributing to Syrian interference in Lebanon, or infringing upon or undermining Lebanese sovereignty;

(B) to have materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, or technological support for, or goods or services in support of, such actions, including acts of violence, or any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order;

(C) to be a spouse or dependent child of any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order; or

(D) to be owned or controlled by, or acting or purporting to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order.

(b) I hereby determine that the making of donations of the type of articles specified in section 203(b)(2) of IEEPA (50 U.S.C. 1702(b)(2)) by, to, or for the benefit of any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to paragraph (a) of this section would seriously impair my ability to deal with the national emergency declared in this order, and I hereby prohibit such donations as provided by paragraph (a) of this section.

(c) The prohibitions in paragraph (a) of this section include but are not limited to (i) the making of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services by, to, or for the benefit of any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order, and (ii) the receipt of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services from any such person.

Sec. 2. (a) Any transaction by a United States person or within the United States that evades or avoids, has the purpose of evading or avoiding, or attempts to violate any of the prohibitions set forth in this order is prohibited.

(b) Any conspiracy formed to violate any of the prohibitions set forth in this order is prohibited.

Sec. 3. For the purposes of this order:

(a) the term "person" means an individual or entity;

(b) the term "entity" means a partnership, association, trust, joint venture, corporation, group, subgroup, or other organization; and

(c) the term "United States person" means any United States citizen, permanent resident alien, entity organized under the laws of the United States or any jurisdiction within the United States (including foreign branches), or any person in the United States.

Sec. 4. For those persons whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order who might have a constitutional presence in the United States, I find that, because of the ability to transfer funds or other assets instantaneously, prior notice to such persons of measures to be taken pursuant to this order would render these measures ineffectual. I therefore determine that, for these measures to be effective in addressing the national emergency declared in this order, there need be no prior notice of a listing or determination made pursuant to section 1 of this order.

Sec. 5. The Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State, is hereby authorized to take such actions, including the promulgation of rules and regulations, and to employ all powers granted to the President by IEEPA, as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of this order. The Secretary of the Treasury may redelegate any of these functions to other officers and agencies of the United States Government, consistent with applicable law. All agencies of the United States Government are hereby directed to take all appropriate measures within their authority to carry out the provisions of this order and, where appropriate, to advise the Secretary of the Treasury in a timely manner of the measures taken. The Secretary of the Treasury shall ensure compliance with those provisions of section 401 of the NEA (50 U.S.C. 1641) applicable to the Department of the Treasury in relation to this order.

Sec. 6. The Secretary of the Treasury, after consultation with the Secretary of State, is hereby authorized to submit the recurring and final reports to the Congress on the national emergency declared in this order, consistent with section 401(c) of the NEA (50 U.S.C. 1641(c)) and section 204(c) of IEEPA (50 U.S.C. 1703(c)).

Sec. 7. This order is not intended to create, nor does it create, any right, benefit, or privilege, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, instrumentalities, or entities, its officers or employees, or any other person.

Like the"Patriot Act" prohibited Librarians from telling anyone when
they illegally searched library records.

13. That's funny ...
in law school, we learned that Mr. President CAN'T MAKE LAWS - only the Legislature can. He can only make POLICY, which Congress can override with LEGISLATION.

I guess my point and bottom line is: "Hey, Congress, GROW A SPINE!!! DO SOMETHING!!"

Technically, I don't mean to suggest that this Congress might actually do something. Besides, vacation starts they couldn't cancel that to save the Republic.

suggest that congress might actually do something to stop the bushit dictatorship from destroying our Constitution.

I'd think they would feel like little wound up robots programed to do the bushit's bidding with all the enabler bills they're passing from "patriot act" to SPIES THE LIMIT.

2. Ready for the "Sweeps-Stakes"?
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.)(IEEPA), the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.)(NEA), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code,

That authority has now become a blank check to do anything the writer wants to, that is, if you are Commander Bush and his team. Anything! Of course, while people sleep and toss and turn in the idea that old checks and balances are still in place. They have been EO'd out of the picture and more is yet to come. If you had a book of blank checks, just how many would you write, and for what amount? In this case, it is all about America and its people and their assumed rights and power ... oh, and the rest of the World would be next, I 'spect.

(cue those in denial)

This is where the really-want-to-feel-good people who have a good head on their shoulders but have a huge disdain for discomfort and would rather rationalize their denial in order to find comfort in a public way, come in. "But, ho-ho! Wait a minute, Congress this and Constitution that!" Sure, that would be great, but all of us reading the Orders and Directives of the Executor in Chief are seeing a completely different picture while others are really getting excited about the next election and who is going to be the Democratic choice for President.

If these royal decrees don't mean much to you, then go warm yourself by a nice fire of blissful distraction and see what comes. Right now, we have a clearly mounting crisis that is being spelled out to us, proclamation by proclamation, by someone who still thinks that we agree he should have any authority vested in him and use it as he sees fit -- or as those who pull his strings do. Somebody, (now who could that be ... could be be ... ah is it ...) is using the position the Constitution has bestowed upon him with a trust, to essentially break it down and end its living legacy.

All it is going to take now, is one significant event, and the rest of the conversation and opinion on this matter will be moot, at least intellectually and publicly, possibly for years or decades to come. Who knows just what the physical ramifications will be at that stage.

It is now showtime! Find and form your personal tribes at least. Or, go watch some more TV and live your life as usual. America is about free choice ... so it seems, for now!

Oh let me call myself things to save other people time: doomer, naysayer, moron, idiot, paranoid, deluded, etc.

4. You are none of those thing you called yourself, sir.
And if, somehow the miraculous 2% chance we have left to save America comes true and things never get as bad as they will if the other 98% probability comes true (who knows what the exact details will be) in some form, you and I (and all who see with history's eyes) will still be none of those things.

As I have said a hundred times before, and I suspect you feel the same, nothing would please me better than being wrong about (well basically about what you just said, which is what I have been saying almost since 12/12/2000 itself) all of this and seeing Old America restored to health and vigor with a strong system of Checks and Balances as well as a Free and Independent Press again.

Yeah, and I would like to see Santa Claus, also. 2% chance. No more and those are not very good odds.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that, even though there is a small chance we might be wrong about how bad things will get, we are not reacting to nothingness, but to very real acts being examined in the context of history.

I can win no tribute from a bankrupted nation populated by feeble flag-waving plebians. In 2008 I shall restore your dignity and make you servants worthy of my rule. Make permanent the Iraq War. I will indulge your wishes if you all want a Westernized, unpopular regime in Iraq, and I too shall gloat in its troubles, but it will not be done at my expense, just yours.

30. Exactly
They are just using each one of these orders to gain more power. It could be Djibouti for all they care.

We need to watch each one of these orders carefully, as the ACLU is, and do everything to call them out on it. As I had suggested in my journal, they can be defeated. This calls for a lot of the Ghandi like measures to win this war, such as infiltrating the GOP. We have control over technology, so let's take advantage of our advantage.

42. What I meant
Edited on Fri Aug-03-07 08:47 PM by EnricoFermi
Befriend those who are your, "enemy".

As Gandhi stated (as I paraphrase, badly), the key is to gain the support of the people within the enemy who can be swayed your direction. Even among the enemy, are people who can sympathize with your plight.

By actively engaging these people, without being a liberal, you can sway their opinion. Most people are good and just need to be shown the light. The polarization is what needs to be removed as we all eventually realize that the war is on the middle and lower classes. We are all in the same boat together and must rise up to end the tyranny, before there is no hope left. If this administration is anything like the Nixon administration, there are several strategies that can be employed, all of them non-violent. Their reaction should be predictable at this point, so take advantage.

I agree that most people are good but they are easily persuaded by the propaganda and our media outlets are frothing with propaganda. How do you propose to "show the light" to people who have their fingers stuck in their ears, droning la-la-la?

I live in one of the reddest of red counties and these folks are brainwashed. GW Bush's 29% probably reside almost entirely where I live. You may be dealing with rational people where you live but they aren't here where I live. They do NOT want to "befriend" me or mine no matter how many ways I try to befriend them within my principles....

As with any argument, it takes a strategy and cooperation. If you start out looking like the liberal they have been taught to fear and hate on Fox News, you are doomed. As we all know, they haven't thought through most of this stuff to any degree, but have preconceived notions as to what to look for in the person engaging them. Bush was elected for being a good ol' boy more than anything else. If you appear like this, without going immediately into conspiracy theories or hatred directed at this administration, then you are going to see more progress.

However, I do suggest attending GOP meetings and other conservative events. I have already done this and intend on increasing this effort. It accomplishes three goals: seeing firsthand (and exposing online) what is going on in these circles, giving you the ability to turn the tide, and creating a paranoia when they know people like us are inside their party. The last is something that can eventually destroy this group. Also, should our worst fears happen, it will help you, especially if you have registered a Republican.

If what I suspect is true, and I will write an article soon, we may be on the verge of a major power grab in the next 90 days. Everything is coming together, and this is the most opportune time for them to take over for a variety of reasons. There have been clear indications coming from both their own language and from recent military drills and warnings. The media is incorrectly identifying these as false alarms used to distract from the embarrassing scandals, but this time I feel it is for real. The false alarms were the ones in years past, not now. Perhaps a cry-wolf scenario was intentional, but I can tell you that a good friend of mine who is fairly high up the chain of command was telling her friends and family to stock up on supplies. Whatever was said at this briefing was enough to cause her to take the case seriously.

We will need to raise concern now, and start preparing for the worst case scenario while being certain to have a strategy. WHEN these next terrorist attacks happen, they will be on a much larger scale than before, probably in multiple locations, causing far more panic and a declaration of martial law. Those internment camps that they have been building and the ones from WW2 they have been refurbishing, will be used. It will be for their own protection and care. After all, they are FEMA camps.

12. contributing to the breakdown of the rule of law in Lebanon
Does that mean all the AIPAC cheerleaders who support Israeli action against Lebanon because of Hezbollah attacks from Lebanon can now lose their property to the state?

Or is it only when the wrong people attack Labanon?

...I cannot for the life of me figure out why he would want to give the 'President' all of these unitary powers KNOWING that the GOP is going to get it's ass kicked next year for the second time in a row. Why hand all of that power over to the opposition party so that they can exact their revenge on you? Unless............

19. In other words Bush is taking this “If your not with us...thing / crap - shit” too a brand new level
And with the suspension of Habeas corpus and the Bush Administration right to Decides Who's a Terrorist and who’s not. And the only documents proving some ones guilt or innocents that the investigators can look through, will be the official versions of manipulated and manufactured ferry tails cleared by the by the BFEE.

Now that could be extrapolated to infinity. Might I exclude a few?

Talking bad about Bush or advocating Impeachment could be construed as a conspiracy that could be harmful too Lebanon.

Any dissenters or protesters against the unelected fascist regime occupying the White House could be classified as terrorist, because the White House might be distracted from protecting Lebanon.

Hell WTF, the Bush regime is allowed to make up stupid shit, so why shouldn’t I give them some ideas. Maybe being a member of DU could be harmful too Lebanon... Ya never know...

I'm wondering if instead of protesting with, you know, ranker if we protested with praise to our god, GWB (AKA savior). 100K people kneeling, bowing and praying to him.

Bless us O'God we are but mere mortals seeking guidance and protection. We fearfully tread before thee knowing thy great wrath and power, but only to ask what may we do in thy service. Where and in what form do we send our money, our children and our labor. Guide us and protect us O'God. Before you, nations tremble and fall at thy voice. Praise Him .... (on and on, blah blah blah)

when this creeps beyond the small and benighted Arab and Muslim minorities--when reg'lar Americans get caught up in this and start RAISING HELL. People say the draft would be a wake-up call; I'd say property seizures like this will be much more effective at getting us out in the streets and PISSED OFF at the government.

41. No one cares anymore
Not if these people are liberal, terrorist sympathizers. They had it coming, right?

I've had too many conversations with people who think that way. All they have to do is spin the media effectively to get people to be on their side. If you are a Muslim, you are automatically SOL. If you are a war protester and they can convince the public that you are "insane", like what they have done to Cindy Sheehan, there would be little uprising. If they can own the media, no one will know anyway, or there will be such a large amount of disinformation and propaganda, that the issue will be too divided to be certain that they did something wrong. They aren't going to take the property of the people who follow the rules and are compliant.

It will start out slow and gradually take more and more control, until no one knows they have lost anything, or it is too late.

46. I don't think that's true.
The one thing we're serious about is property in America. If Americans perceive an assault on their right to their property, they will close ranks and forget politics. Most of us war resisters have freeper relatives, and blood is generally thicker than water.

But welcome to DU!

36. This is a law school moot case here: the right of executive orders vs. the intrinsic
right of the people to be "secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects" and that such searches, seizures and persons have to be made under oath or affirmation after probably cause.

That is the Fourth Amendment.

57. I read the EO a couple of times.
It does look as if your "properties" can be taken away if you try to stop the funding to rebuild of Iraq.

Being Bush feels the war is bringing “political reform” to Iraq...any "United States person" who tries to end the war can fall under the category of a person who is trying to threaten the stabilization efforts in Iraq.

This one paragraph gets to me....

(b) The prohibitions in subsection (a) of this section include, but are not limited to, (i) the making of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services by, to, or for the benefit of any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order, and (ii) the receipt of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services from any such person.

...Doesn't that mean we could have our assets legally frozen if we simply help a person who has had their “properties” taken away? ....It sounds very Anne Frank to me.

Signing statements declaring he does not have to follow the law.

Claiming executive privilege exempts anyone from testifying against him.

And Executive order after order, each one giving him more power to destroy anyone that disagrees with him.

They are setting up a huge coup de gras.

Pretty soon it will be done and then the fun starts when they actively start using the decrees to get rid of anyone that challenges them.

Tin foil hat stuff? Yep.
And there could be a lot of people that soon will wish they started wearing tin foil hats a lot earlier.

60. This is really nothing new,
though that shouldn't assuage anyone's fears or suspicion of an overweening Federal government that already suspects you of something. It costs government agencies and bureaucracies nothing to begin proceedings against you, and if they ultimately lose their case, the agency won't be held financially through appropriations to account. You'll be left homeless and without property whenever the Feds go for asset forfeiture against their enemy, the Citizen.
