Can Congress defund the war and cite infrastructure needs at home?
Edited on Fri Aug-03-07 08:27 AM by GreenPartyVoter
Or does the money for bridge and dam repairs etc come from elsewhere?

"More than 70,000 bridges across the country are rated structurally deficient like the I-35W bridge, and engineers estimate repairing them all would take at least a generation and cost more than $188 billion."

1. They'll need infrastructure work on their spines first
If they won't defund it because thousands of people are dying for no reason, a little bridge collapse won't cause them to act.

5. Well, there is that. But maybe, since these were American civilians?

2. Congress can defund the war and cite nothing if that is their will.
We're already borrowing money from other nations like China to finance Junior's spending habits. And that's how we'll fund any additional spending like the bridge and lock repairs.

6. You raise a good point. The money will come from outside, maybe.

10. Yes, it will be deficit spending
Thanks to the borrow-and-spend policies of today's fiscal liberals who are running the Republican party. It sure won't be paid for by rolling back the disasterous tax cuts for rich people. Let the next generation or two or three pay the bills.

4. * already jumped on that
By making a statement that it was up to the States to take care of infrastructure. Of course, then his worship decided to have a *merciful moment* and offer help to Minnesota.

Rove had already worked out the numbers, obviously. :sarcasm:

solar powered fly cars by now!

8. That's the crucial question ..
... and it's a political one. Are the leaders of our party going to stand up and demand a new set of priorities? Are we going to build bridges in Iraq for insurgents to bomb down, or give up that exercise in futility and rebuild our own country?

11. That is a pinful question you ask. I hate to think of all the mess we keep remaking over there.
