Hey Trent Lott you sniveling little lily-livered coward..
so you want to shut Congress down until after September 11th cause you're askeered of the terrorists. Well Senator, what about the people left behind? What about those of us who don't have the luxury of high tailing it out of town? What about the Federal workers who are charged with keeping the business of the people up and running? What about their families? Did you ever think of them? No, you haven't, because you're too busy worrying about your own sorry ass. You're perfectly fine with sending other people into the line of fire to protect your sorry butt.

Hey Senator, if you're too scared to stay in Washington and do your job, then fucking resign. If there weren't so many other innocent people in the way, I'd wish a direct hit of a category 5 hurricane in the midst of your mint julep on the front porch.

I don't know which is more pathetic, if you're actually cutting and running from Washington because you're a frightened little rabbit, or if you're just scare mongering for your own political purposes. Either way, you're despicable. If I were one of your constituents, I'd be ashamed to have a chickenhawk coward like you representing me.

You're a disgrace.

3. Yes Boss, you're partly the reason why I amended my comments..
about the hurricane. You have my deepest sympathies. I could have commiserated with you last year, but quite happily we got ourselves rid of our little macaca, so Virginia no longer stands in the hall of Senatorial infamy.

4. I greatly appreciate
your perspective My Dear; its really sad to know that my representatives in Washington are held in such low esteem by intellectually curious Americans throughout the country. He and the invisible senator (thad cochran) are both embarrassments. And thank yall for electing my former boss (SECNAV) Webb to the Senate. Outstanding choice.

5. hey. it's not ABOUT that
think for a minute here...

the Dems have been worried
that during the August recess, * will make 'recess appointments'
parTICularly, having Gonzo resign and appointing a new AG
SO
there has been talk of reconvening every however many days
(I forget what the minimum is)
in order for there not to be an official recess

enter Homeland Security!

oh no! Washington under terrible threat during AUGUST!
puleez, how transparent can you get?

and then Trent-boy stands up to say
how much better it would be
if congress just goes away for the month

HOW STUPID DO THESE PEOPLE THINK WE ARE???????????

9. How stupid do they think we are?
Well, since Chimpy still enjoys a 25% approval rating, probably pretty stupid indeed. But you know, I don't think they think all that much about us anymore. It's pretty obvious that some Republicans are so far gone, they don't even worry about it. They know they'll never stand for election again, they've betrayed the country so badly, that piling on petty offenses like Lott's cowardice just isn't seen as all that big a deal anymore. Like a criminal who's on the run from the law, trying to bring him to justice for murder, rape, arson, kidnapping, torture and a host of other heinous crimes, failing to signal for that next right turn just doesn't seem all that big a deal anymore.

6. No, he wants it shut down, the Senate, that is, so Bush can make some RECESS appointments.
If the Senate is gone fishin', then Bush can do the "Boltonesque" business and bypass the Senate, as he has done almost 200 times thus far:

Let's walk down memory lane: http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/08/01/bolton.appointment/index.html

...Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, called Bolton's recess appointment an "abuse of power."

"It's bad enough that the administration stonewalled the Senate by refusing to disclose documents highly relevant to the Bolton nomination," he said. "It's even worse for the administration to abuse the recess appointment power by making the appointment while Congress is in this five-week recess."

    Bush Appointments Avert Senate Battles

    By Thomas B. Edsall
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Thursday, January 5, 2006; Page A13

President Bush yesterday made a raft of controversial recess appointments, including Julie L. Myers to head the Immigration and Customs Enforcement bureau at the Department of Homeland Security, in a maneuver circumventing the need for approval by the Senate.

Myers, a niece of former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Richard B. Myers and the wife of the chief of staff to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, had been criticized by Republicans and Democrats who charged that she lacked experience in immigration matters.....Bush appointed Tracy A. Henke as executive director of the Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness. She had been accused in her politically appointed post at the Justice Department of demanding that information about racial disparities in police treatment of blacks in traffic cases be deleted from a news release.

The president avoided an abortion rights battle with the recess appointment of former Maryland Republican gubernatorial candidate Ellen R. Sauerbrey as assistant secretary of state for population, refugees and migration. Sauerbrey is an opponent of abortion rights.

For the Federal Election Commission, Bush picked Justice Department employee and former Fulton County, Ga., Republican chairman Hans von Spakovsky for one of three openings. Von Spakovsky is widely viewed as a key player in two disputed Justice Department decisions to overrule career staff in voting rights cases.....McCain and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass) issued statements critical of the appointments. Von Spakovsky may have undermined "enforcement of our civil rights laws," Kennedy said. "By appointing von Spakovsky, the White House missed an opportunity to fill this important position with a person clearly committed to these fundamental rights."

10. WTF??
Lott was using Navy personnel to peel shrimp? It would complete the picture if your co-worker just happened to be African-American. What a useless twerp that toupee head is.

13. I caught in on the news this morning (local D.C.)
apparently they are beefing up security at the Capitol building because of an "unspecified threat", and Lott said they should close down until after 9/12. :grr:
