When are the Dems going to speak? It's past twelve thirty! |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-03-07 11:55 AM by senseandsensibility
I thought the Dems were having a press conference at 12:30 ET! Instead, they are rerunning that godawful whine fest of the repugs for the second (maybe third?) time!
Get with it, Dems! The repugs are getting a lot of free, unanswered air time. I've heard about the "Democrat" party more times this morning than in the past year. They're spinning this as the Dems wanting low-income citizens to pay for illegals' foodstanmps out of their pockets!
Again...where are the Dems?

Would be nice to hear the truthful side of what happened last night, again.
Hoyer laid it out pretty clear on the floor this morning.

4. Yes, they are whining---but there are rank and file |
|
Democratic Voters who will go with GOP.
Seniors will not be thrilled to learn their Medicare is being cut to give to Illegals.
American Kids Health Program scammed to help Ileegals.
Taxpayers Dollars going to Illegals is GOP strong Talking point.
Illegal Immigration is a sticky sticky issue. Dems had better clarify. This is all over TV.
Bill Clinton raised taxes on Seniors. People have better memories than Dems give them credit.

6. The point is the Republicans have a message |
|
that will work with American People. The Middle Class has been shafted so they will be eager to jump on the bandwagon.
It does not matter that the GOP shafted them. The GOP is making it look like they are on the Middle Class Side and unfortunately the Dems look like they are scaming the Americans.
The Dictionary does not matter. The Dems better get out in full force and get this clarified.

9. Welfare to illegal immigrants? |
|
I don't see either of the major political parties as understanding the frustration that most Americans are having with a government that fails to enforce our border and our immigration laws.
I'm not 100% clear on what happened last night. That said.....if Democrats get the reputation that they are the "I support both welfare to illegal immigrants, and illegal immigration Party" they will lose mucho public support. The important issues in America are Iraq, Illegal Immigration and Healthcare in about that order. Illegal immigration is also contributing to the healthcare problem. Some may not like to hear it but those are the real facts.

15. Right now, given that the Dems haven't spoken... |
|
... to the general audience I think it sounds like the GOP stood up for us to prevent the government from taking money from our grandparents to give it to illegal aliens and the Dems, no, excuse me, the radical imperial Dems, broke 200 year old laws in order to make sure the will of the people would be thwarted.
And the longer they wait to respond, the longer the message sets, the harder it becomes.

7. I just called the Speaker's office |
|
Some college-aged guy answered the phone. I asked him when the Democrats were going to hold their press conference, as it was supposed to start at 12:30.
His response to my question: "Are you a member of the press corps?"
- No, I'm just a constituent.
"I can neither confirm nor deny that there will be a press conference. But if you want, you can look at the information we have on speaker.gov...dot...dot.."

17. They don't have to listen to us |
|
"They" are at the seat of power, making the rules, and you and I are here venting on a message board. They don't have to talk to us, but they will have to answer to us en total in 2008. I'm disgusted with legislators that refuse to get the message that the people have been telling them....we want a Congress that works for us the people, not special interests..

|
Who do they think they are, you ask.
Why, they are Members of Congress.
They are "the annointed".
They are "The Rulers".
They are "The Wise".
They are "The Benevolent".
They are Out of Touch.

11. I have a question about this 12:30 thing: who said it would be at 12:30? |
|
My only knowledge that it was supposed to be at 12:30 was from what I read here on DU. But who here on DU heard that it was supposed to be at 12:30, and from where did they hear it?

I think they are still discussing what to do re FISA, and will not make any public statements until they are done. This makes sense, doesn't it? The 12:30 was a tentative time mentioned on CSPAN.
