House erupts in chaos

In a massive flare-up of partisan tensions (video link courtesy Breitbart.tv), Republicans walked out on a House vote late Thursday night to protest what they believed to be Democratic maneuvers to reverse an unfavorable outcome for them.

The flap represents a complete breakdown in parliamentary procedure and an unprecedented low for the sometimes bitterly divided chamber.

The rancor erupted shortly before 11 p.m. as Rep. Michael R. McNulty (D-N.Y.) gaveled close the vote on a standard procedural measure with the outcome still in doubt.

Details remain fuzzy, but numerous Republicans argued afterward that they had secured a 215-213 win on their motion to bar undocumented immigrants from receiving any federal funds apportioned in the agricultural spending bill for employment or rental assistance. Democrats, however, argued the measure was deadlocked at 214-214 and failed, members and aides on both sides of the aisle said afterward.

One GOP aide saw McNulty gavel the vote to a close after receiving a signal from his leaders – but before reading the official tally. And votes continued to shift even after he closed the roll call - a strange development in itself.

Whatever the final tally, acrimony quickly exploded between lawmakers on either side of the aisle as Democratic leaders tried to plot a solution, while parliamentarians on either side argued over protocol.

........

The official House website did not show a record of the vote as of 1 a.m. Friday.

Republicans Walk Out On Procedural Matter
- by Kyle E. Moore -

In what Politico calls an "unprecedented low", Republicans late last night walked out of the chamber in the midst of a incredibly close vote partially tied to illegal immigration.

The vote was gaveled closed by Rep. McNulty whith the results still in dispute. Republicans say they had an extremely narrow lead of 215 to 213, while Democratic leadership called it at a tie. Amid vast protest, there was even talk of reopening the vote, but the already incensed Republicans staged a walk out.

1. ahhh Pelosi didn't expect the dust up before adjournment for summer..well she should have
expected some kind of bullshit before the repugs go home and were going to get blasted at home..she an all dems should have anticipated something bold from these damn repigs...

what were they going to go home to their stated with a surge?????????

a White House that refuses subpoena's?

so what can rile up their base????? ahhh yes Lou Dobvs and immigration .......

and Nancy didn't anticipate any of this??????

2. The Democrats had better find someway to keep
Immigration Discussions and Legislation out of the limelight.
They give the GOP the one issue they can play to their advantage.

When are they going to wake up?

6. IMHO, this Republic temper tantrum is because
the House and Senate Democrats found a way to avoid SCHIP recommit....remember a few days ago, when we were discussing how the Republics sent every attempt to pass legislation back to joint committee instead of allowing an "up or down vote?" Well, then the House and Senate agreed on basics of SCHIP legislation (was it SCHIP, or am I having another senior moment...doesn't SCHIP come within the giant AG bill?) without having to work it out in joint conference committee...where it would often get stuck, due to Republics. So, they did it without joint committee as there was nothing to work out between House and Senate. Republics go ballistic and meet the Dem tactic with a tactic of their own....a temper tantrum.

7. BTW, I looked at most of the main lefty blogs, and quite a few
of the right-winger blogs, and Michelle Malkin is the only one who just now is asking, "What the hell happened in the House last night?" No one else seems to be concerned about it....and haven't seen it in MSM anywhere. (CSpan only) Now that MM is posting about it, get ready for the shit-storm in the Reich-o-sphere.
