11. Sorry
for the cryptic message. I don't usually post this way, but I am very upset. All morning the Repugs have been smearing the Dems about a vote that took place earlier this morning (I think). It's too complicated to explain the whole thing here, but there are several threads on it in GD. My point is that c-span has run their whine fest two or three times all morning, saying that the Dems will respond. I have been waiting for their response and now it's obvious it isn't going to happen. As much as I hate to admit it, the repugs were very effective inspite of their whining tone. And the Dems are just going to let it stand. I am getting angry, and I think I'll take a break now. Usually I'm pretty good at letting stuff roll off my back, but this is really bothering me and I am angry that I spent a couple of hours waiting for the Dems to respond this morning when I knew deep down that they would cave again.

2. It's truly idiotic.
I've been very supportive of our leadership, but this is pure incompetence.

10. Hoyer responded on the floor of the House, on the record, in very measured and statesmanlike tones.
Earlier today.

16. That wasn't enough, though, obviously.
Most DUers didn't even understand what happened, and were ready to accept the Republican version of the story.

17. Not good enough. The GOP had an angry and forceful presser since then. We need to respond.
Otherwise, their facts will be THE facts.

26. So sez you. I disagree.
Everyone's either at the beach or focused on the bridge disaster.

News conferences go into the ether. The record of the House lives on forever.

6. they look like idiots . . . the D's can always find a way to lose
The R's will ride this for all it is worth. And they have a couple of arguments that will resonate with Americans.

25. I'm rethinking that. The SB ads worked because they were repeated.
If the Democrats hold their ground and continue to work on their own terms, that little bit of hysteria might fall off the radar.

9. I don't think it was ever true that the Democrats said they were holding a 12:30 press conference
DUers - myself included - got suckered into believing the Democrats called a 12:30 press conference, when in fact the Democrats never called a 12:30 press conference. All that happened was that DUers were telling each other that the Democrats had called for a 12:30 press conference.

This is how rumors start and get rolling.

13. It was announced on CSPAN but apparently, it was planned
as a wrap up before the August recess, not as a response to this flap.

18. Whoa,
hold up there THAT'S BULLSHIT! I was watching CSPAN when they showed the cameras in the room for the presser, banner said Dem Press Conf to start shortly, they had that on for a minute or two then cut back to the re-run of Wash Journal with the explanation that they would go back when Pelosi and Reid showed up.

22. I think that the main issue for the press conference
will be FISA. Much more important than what happened last night, entertaining as that may be (important as well). As I mentioned in another thread about this, I am sure they will not come out and say anything until a conclusion (which I dread...) will be reached. Give them time. In the meantime, you can have fun with CSPAN where the house is back.
