6. They are fighting about FISA. It seems that the Dems have a bill and refused to allow
the AG control over spying on Americans. Alcee spoke about no wsrrants re foreign to foreign, ok. Then he said they agreed to letting the phone companies off the hook (no pun intended)..I don't like that, and then he said the Dems agreed to another change..and he Never said what that was! This bothers me.

The Repugs are upset because they don't have the bill in front of them.

2940501, Bush says Congress must stay in session until it passes new spying law
Posted by Purveyor on Fri Aug-03-07 11:32 AM

Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON — President Bush said today that Congress must stay in session until it approves legislation modernizing a U.S. law governing eavesdropping on foreigners.

"So far the Democrats in Congress have not drafted a bill I can sign," Bush said at FBI headquarters, where he was meeting with counterterror and homeland security officials. "We've worked hard and in good faith with the Democrats to find a solution, but we are not going to put our national security at risk. Time is short."

The president said that lawmakers must not leave for their August recess this weekend as planned unless they "pass a bill that will give our intelligence community the tools they need to protect the United States."

Earlier today, the White House offered an eleventh-hour accord to Democrats in the negotiations over the matter, saying it would agree to a court review of its foreign intelligence activities instead of leaving certification up to the attorney general and director of national intelligence.

in public. If the phone companies are being left off the hook, it must be tied into that.

I think we all have to do that. Bush isn't happy, the R's aren't happy. That's a good sign.

Peace

38. God that ticks me off.
How often do authorities let little people "off the hook"? But if you're a huge corporation, you're apparently "above the law" because Congress will change the law for you.

Best government money can buy.

13. Basically, the Repubs started out by claiming the Democrats were hiding the details of FISA
Edited on Fri Aug-03-07 12:56 PM by brentspeak
That B.S. talking point was first uttered by Pete Sessions.

Then both Jane Harman and Alcee Hastings pointed out that the FISA bill details had already been released to the Republicans long ago.

But Sessions and Heather Wilson (Repug) merely repeated their earlier accusation that the Democrats were preventing the Republicans from knowing about the bill.

Finally, Alcee Hastings let loose a torrent, getting real angry that Sessions was trying to perpetrate a lie.

15. These Republics are bloviating pigs...
...they lie with every word that comes out of their collective mouth.

And all they do is try and smear Democrats, who have not yet figured out how to deflect it effectively. Although I will say, Alcee Hastings is showing how it's done. I loved it that he lost it during the last Republican speaker.

The current speaker is accusing Democrats of gamesmanship. He is a lying Republic pig -- but I repeat myself.

Sad. I will say this: they know how to be a minority party. If they did not have the habit of lying the way they do, I would almost admire it. But as it is, it makes me so angry that I literally feel sick.
