They whine and whine at the local level for federal benefits to offset local costs - then when they get the goddamn money - they stand up and say we're taking money from old people to give to illegals.
How do people get to be so vile. I hate them.

10. Unfortunately, I don't think that's how it will appear to average voters... |
|
... and if the Dems don't give the other side of the story, how will the average voters know any different?

Their bumbling today was comedy gold. If I had decent video capture software, I'd be editing this silly dislay myself. I think Benny Hill music would be about right. :)

11. Agreed, just let them whine.. |

There's really no need for a response to this petty bullshit. The Dems response has been on the floor, where it should be.
If the Repukes think this little stunt is going to gain them public favor, they're delusional.

... it involves immigration, so the public can relate.
No one pays attention to the proceedings on the house floor, but snippets from press conferences sometimes make it on the news. The GOP talked to the press and that's where the Dems should counter.

5. Why in the hell don't democratic leaders speak up and tell the press |

the republicans could have done something about illegal immigration when they controlled congress and didn't do a damn thing but let it get worse. Now they are trying to act like they care, when everybody should know the cons don't give a rats ass!

... massive abuse of power by the Dems breaking 200 year old house rules to overrule a vote of the floor that would have protected grandmothers against having their money taken at gunpoint and given to illegal aliens.
At least that's the GOP story...

16. I need some clarification. |
|
No-one loathes Republicans as much as I do, but I really need someone to excplain to me what actually happened last night on that vote that has caused all the uproar. I haven't seen the proceedings, and all I am able to base my opinion on is from what I've seen on C-Span and on this site. Right now I'm having a sense that there was some slippery goings-on with the vote that was, and then apparently wasn't. I shudder to think that perhaps the Republicans do have a valid complaint: please convince me otherwise! If a person like me can have doubts, I really question how this will play out in the long run. Don't smear me, call me naive, stupid,etc......just an explanation will do. Seriously. I'm afraid this entire matter could easily get blown way out of control. Somehow watching Reid and Pelosi doesn't make me feel any better.

17. Your confusion is evidence that GOP is handling this issue much better than the Dems.... |
|
... imaging how easy it would be for an independent or even a moderate GOPer to buy the GOP version.
I don't yet think I've heard the actual facts but it sounds like it something like this.
They were voting last night on a bill related to food stamps and undocumented workers or something. At some point during the vote the speaker declared the vote closed and banged the gavel. At that point the vote showed that the Republicans won the vote.
Then the speaker realized something, and I'm not sure what it was. It might have been that all the votes were not actually counted yet. It might have been that the GOP had won. It might have been something else. But whatever the reason was, the speaker reopened the vote, the numbers changed, and then the Democrats were winning. The speaker declared that the Democrats had one.
The GOP was furious. There was yelling and arguments and then many of them walked out.
There was an offer to revote. THe GOP doesn't want that because they're pretty sure they'd lose on a revote. There was also some admission that the speaker had made a mistake but I'm not clear if the mistake was prematurely closing a vote before it was over or if the mistake was reopening a closed vote.
The GOP wants the vote to be reset to what it was on the first closing which of course guarantees their win. The Dems want to move on.
I hope that clears things up at that I've not steered you too wrong.
