Imagine the whole states of Illinois & Michigan..homeless , hungry & on the move
Edited on Fri Aug-03-07 02:01 PM by SoCalDem
Over TWENTY MILLION people in Bangladesh, northern India & Nepal have been flooded out of their homes.. water is 9 METERS deep in many areas. they have lost homes, livestock, crops, businesses, whole towns..

These people are the poorest among the poor, and they are descending upon areas on higher ground that are ill-prepared to receive them.

So far the 21st Century is shaping up to be the century of the refugee.. from war, from weather, from economic deprivation.

This is how Global Climate Change/Warming destabilizes the world.

People will not just stay put and watch their families drown and or starve. They WILL move..whether they are welcomed or not.

The combined population (2005 numbers) for Illinois & Michigan is 22,884,231..(close to the flooded areas)

Would/Could Ohio or Indiana or Minnesota or Missouri welcome ALL the inhabitants of Illinois & Michigan...over a few months' time-frame? Imagine the infrastructure overload, the crowding, the dis-harmony.

Unless you watch the international news, you would never know about this, but it IS happening, and monsoon season is not over yet.

6. Get used to eating a lot of beans and peanut butter, if your lucky.
If you live in a relatively low lying area, and it doesn't need to be a current flood zone, because the flood zones will change, take swimming lessons, get life preservers for your home. Learn how to start a fire with out a lighter or matches, because you will need to boil your own water before drinking.

Thanks for the thread SoCalDem, I'm running late on an appointment, but have a good weekend.
