Military tight-lipped on shooting
http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/military-tightlipped-on-shooting/2007/08/02/1185648060587.html

THE wounding by Australian soldiers in Afghanistan of two children has highlighted the army's jitters over the increasing use by insurgents of vehicle-borne bombs, and a lack of openness in the military when something goes wrong.

The shooting was not made public by the Australian Defence Force, even though a website of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force provided some information.

At a media briefing at Defence Force headquarters in Canberra yesterday, a spokesman, Brigadier Andrew Nikolic, was short on details about the shooting. snip

While Brigadier Nikolic could not say what the children's injuries were, the NATO website states that the girl had a wound to her hand and the two-year-old boy had minor wounds to the head and body. The children were treated at the scene and later in hospital, but have returned to their families.
