What do you say to someone that says they're too busy
to worry about what the politicians are doing in DC? Thanks.

1. "Then you lose your bitching privileges."
"When it finally begins to bite your ass, and it will, you'll want to scream, but you ain't allowed. You just gave away that right."

2. mmmm
You can say that when their city is flooded or they have no healthcare or when the bridge they are driving on collapses, or someone they love dies in an unnecessary war, they'll be able to blame themselves because they were too busy to worry.

3. I ask them where they got their lobotomy
...because I sure as hell wish I didn't care. I wish I was as oblivious as a fool.

7. Too busy to keep bridges from falling down?
Lead out of kids' toys, mercury out of fish, toxins out of the ground and water??

People have got to start committing just 30 minutes a week to something political. We can't survive like this.

8. MAny people aren't going to like this but those people have a point
I notice that most of them aren't half as stressed out as I am, and most of the ones I talk to about this say that it's not really that they are too busy but that they can't handle the stress... Sure they lose their bitching rights, they don't really care, they don't bitch because they don't see. Sometimes remaining ignorant is a blessing, and I am not going to fault someone for not wanting to be as stressed out as me.

12. Right On Walldude
I wish I was oblivious. I really really do. Sometimes I feel like sticking an ice pick in my eye and doing a home lobotomy. I am miserably unhappy about just about everything in life that is even slightly political.

13. No doubt
I know the more I get wrapped up in the day to day happenings/not happenings of the world/politics it stresses me out. I find myself constantly venting in order to find some kind of base/perspective.

9. You tell them you understand perfectly.
There are people getting home from work at 10pm, what the hell are they supposed to do?

10. If I know them well enough, I ask them how old are their children-
... and if they are willing to standy by as their kids options in the job market dwindle. I ask if it matters if their kids are marketed by military recruiters.

Depending on how well I know they will react, I ask them if it matters if anyone listens to all their phone calls, reads their e-mails, and can forfeit their pay check upon suspicion from the executive branch.

I haven't been told to go fuck myself yet, but I honestly have had this conversation a total of 2 times in the last 3 years because the ones who are too busy, have said straight out, they already get their news on ABC, NBC or CBS tv or radio, and their spouse only watches the E! channel.

11. They'll be busier when they're trying to make ends meet.
It doesn't get easier or more leisurely when life goes downhill.
