Congress is giving him his "emergency" bill. Now, they should pass it, leave it on on his desk, tell Bush C-ya, pack up and get out of Dodge since he keeps ratcheting up the August terrist rhetoric practically by the hour. I mean if you're going to yell fire in a crowded theater, Mr. Bush...

He's got his bill. Congress is giving him his fixes.

All, pretty much, it seems, but the retroactive immunity for the TelCo's. Hmmm. That a problem, Mr Bush?

There is even one last free dance for Gonzo:

Additionally, for reasons that aren't explained, the attorney general gets one last dalliance with warrantless surveillance: he can authorize surveillance for up to 15 days after the bill's passage if he says there's an "emergency situation," and the court can bless an extension of not longer than another 30 days.

He either needs this "emergency fix" or he doesn't. If HE doesn't sign it and "something happens".....

Two could play this diabolical chicken game of his.

What's in the FISA Bill?

From the Bush administration's perspective, the House proposal to amend the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act goes way too far to restrict the intelligence community from collecting crucial information on terrorists. Yet looking at the bill, it's hard to see what the White House's objections could be.

4. Interesting
Bush won't sign it, but the bill does exactly what he wants...gets him his emergency power because "time is short". All of the unlimited crap he wanted stripped out fo the bill and the so was protection for the telecom companies.

Well...for once, I think the Dems actually applied good strategy here. Thank God they knew what kind of bill Bush wouldn't sign because it is a dangerous game playing chicken with civil liberties.

Sometimes you have to bully Americans with the draconian spy tools and bills you have, not the draconian biils you wish you had...
