5. No...but I still had hope that all those phone, faxes and e-mails, petitions and
the efforts we've been doing for 6 1/2 years...might have mattered. Getting involved...working night and day...working with people to make change.

Yeah...I was stupid...I knew...but I thought there was hope. So, I was stupid...what else is there to say.

9. You are not stupid
but loyal to the party. I figured out a while back how much that actually meant to the party and left it. You will do what you will do but you are just more optimistic than I was, not stupid, not you.

11. You weren't stupid, KoKo01
Just as bit naive and unrealistic. There were flooded with letters, phone calls and emails prior to the IWR vote. They didn't listen. They have been flooded with letters, phone calls and emails about impeachment. They refuse to listen. Pleas have poured into their offices not to give the cabal this power. They didn't listen.

I tend to be a realist, and sometimes - oftentimes - I hate seeing things as they are rather than how I'd like them to be.

15. Not Stupid...
You, like so many of us, hoped that what the American people say matters. The truth is as long as politicians can run for re-election we will have situations like this where their job future is much more important than their job responsibilities. Right now, a politician gets elected and on day 1 of victory s/he is running for re-election, building up a campaign war chest and choosing sides for who will do them the most good. There are a few notable exceptions - some in pretty safe seats who actually speak and vote their constituents' desires - but they are the extremely rare (think Unicorn) exception to the reality or the ones who are so well gerrymandered into office. It has certainly appeared to me in the last few years that what the people say doesn't matter, it is what is said by those who can harm the "party" or the electability of someone that does.

3. It's PERFECTLY CLEAR NOW. They ARE in cahoots with the cabal. There is no other explanation.
They are ALL IN THIS TOGETHER AGAINST THE PEOPLE!

8. Battered Media Syndrome...
I can't blame Reid or Pelosi...they can urge someone to vote a way, but they can't pull the vote lever for them. We bemoan the Repugnicans who vote party above all else yet expect our leaders to batter "weak" members like a DeLay did? There's a more systemic problem here...and that's the fear not of boooshie as much as getting beat up in the corporate media. Many of these people are from purple and red areas and are scared shit of being labeled as "soft on terra" or "unpatriotic" or whatever label they'll get in their local papers or on the hate radio. They fear the Rove slime machine more than they fear our wrath and votes...and this is where the big disconnect is.

I hope someone posts all those Reps who enabled this regime today...and that we keep those names handy. There are primaries up ahead and some very interesting netroots and Progressive candidates who may just kick out a few incumbents or at least scare them into looking at fearing our wrath over that of some corporate stenographer.

Cheers...

10. Its their job to deliver votes
if they can't do it, and they haven't been able to since taking control of Congress, they need to resign their leadership positions and put people in charge who can LEAD.

12. And Who Would That Be??? Honestly...
Are you suggesting we have a DeLay type who has pictures of Reps with little boys in his desk? I'm curious who you think would be a leader that could force party discipline.

There's no defending...and I'm sure not...any of the Democrats who caved in today, but to blame leadership is unfair, unless you have a better alternative.

Today's vote all but assured that I will be working hard to defeat the incumbent Democrat in my district...a person I worked long and hard for in several elections...and I'm done. At YKos, I met a person who is going to challenge in the primary and the first check is going out tonight...I call goes to her on Monday to ask "where do I sign up?"
