41 Democrats in the House and 16 Democrats in the Senate don't represent our party |
|
It's self-defeating to highlight those idiots as if they represented the majority of our party.
As long as I can remember, there's been that same margin of moderate legislators in our party, most from conservative regions of the country where electing Democrats isn't the voter's first instinct. Despite their ability to derail progressive initiatives and advance conservative ones, they are a minority in our party. They enabled the republican spy bill as a minority in our party.
That moderate minority doesn't deserve to have their betrayal - which was against the resolve of the vast majority of Democrats - define legislators in our party who stood up and did the right thing.

8. THEY REPRESENT THE PEOPLE, not the PARTY. |
|
Let us not fall into a one-party thinking trap. This is the USA, not Stalin's USSR. DEMs in congress have a right to reflect their districts.
Would you rather they give those seats back to the Rs? I doubt it.
One example is ND. Kerry got 35%. Need I say more?

there are districts where these legislators can find support enough to get elected. I would judge them on their overall performance, although there are some issues which are obviously more important to me.
But that minority of moderates can't find a majority of Democrats they work with who share their philosophy or their intentions.
So, when we label Democrats (and we always will try), that minority shouldn't be held up as the standard for our party. On this spy bill, they're square in the wingers' laps.
