The War on Terror and Sesame Street: "War Is OK", says Elmo.
As we grown-ups all know, war is good, war is always justifiable when a man in a suit on TV tells you it is, and bombing freedom into oil-rich nations is the only way for mankind to evolve, to bring peace to our troubled planet. It's not War and Peace, it's War IS Peace - Tolstoy, I'm sure you'll agree, was a blithering idiot, and Orwell could have beaten him up easy-peasy.

But what about the children...?

There is a disturbing phenomenon becoming more and more apparent to modern behavioural scientists, whereby humans seem completely unable to understand the logic of war until they reach the age of 14. There also exists an equally disturbing trend whereby a great many people tend to "grow out of" this understanding by the age of 20, but that's not the focus of this story. Today I, and Sesame Street productions, want you to think of the chiiiiiidren.

So what can be done to rectify this growing social problem? How can we teach our innocent youngsters about war and all its endless benefits, monetary ones aside? How can we make their naive, young minds understand that when daddy flies off to free the crap out of another nation and die at the bequest of men in suits, he's also protecting his own children's freedom to play with GI Joe dolls and toy tanks in the back yard, untroubled by nasty, bearded men who hate freedom and talk funny?
