Disgrace
Gonzales shames Latinos, nation

Ed Morales
August 4, 2007 - 8:55PM

Two years ago, many Latinos prematurely rejoiced at news of Alberto Gonzales’ appointment as U.S. attorney general. ....

To add insult to injury, his tenure has done nothing for the advancement of Hispanics in this country. Instead of acting as a role model and an advocate for Hispanic issues as attorney general, Gonzales has served only one master, the White House. In a job that requires an ability to act independently and face tough legal issues, Gonzales has functioned chiefly as a public relations flack. ....

When the White House needed someone to justify torture, Gonzales was there.

When the White House needed someone to fire U.S. attorneys who were prosecuting Republican wrongdoers, Gonzales was there.

When in 1996, then-Texas Gov. Bush needed someone to get him out of jury duty because he would have to admit an arrest for drunk driving, Gonzales were there.

But when Latinos need an advocate, Gonzales is nowhere to be found.

And when Americans need an attorney general, Gonzales hides behind a bodyguard of deception.

And my e-mail to him:

Mr MORALES, your item on GONZALES ran under the headline, "DISGRACE - Gonzales shames Latinos, nation."

I thoroughly agree, not only now but from the get-go. I didn't get from your piece whether you supported his nomination and now see the error, but since your affliation uses the word "progressive," I assume you saw the error from the beginning--or from BEFORE the beginning as with all errors named "Shrub".

Like some of us lowly types could see what the Iraq Attack was without the benefit of "sophisticated" intelligence resources, unlike our political leaders who now claim they were misled.

Anyway, the funny part was how Ruben NAVARRETTE was beating the ecstasy drum over Beto's nomination, and when some Hispanics opposed it, N. claimed that Beto ought to be confirmed JUST BECAUSE HE'S A HISPANIC withOUT much, if any, vetting or tough questioning, that once Beto was in place, N. would be WATCHING HIM LIKE A HAWK and, if Beto screwed up, would be the FIRST to excoriate him mercilessly, ruthlessly, with the TOUGHEST chicken noodle he could find (his own. Cough). This would be like O.J.'s never-resting search for the real killer, leaving no golf course unspiked.

This is the same NAVARRETTE who tirelessly finds nothing to dislike about Shrub and everything to despise about "White, Liberal males," who did him the disservice of instituting Affirmative Action and other despicable social services. N. is always giving (unwanted) advice to the Democratic Party. Like when he DEMANDED, when the Dems showed signs of rebirth in Texas, that they OWED it to Victor MORALES (the pick-up truck, weekend nut) to nominate HIM instead of having a chance of winning with Ron KIRK, because Victor had been doing his candidacy game as a Dem during the bad years. Victor later showed what kind of Dem he was by refusing to endorse the winner of the Dem primary.

The national venues don't have a clue when they are looking for true Hispanic voices. YOU ought to be on the CNN website, not NAVARRETTE.

1. Gonzales doesn't have any friends in my heavily Hispanic area
and I've run into more than one who felt the necessity of telling me that all Hispanics aren't like that, not even all successful Hispanics.

My reply, "He's an asshole. You're not."

I hate it when people expect prejudice. I hate that their lives make them expect it.

Thank you, Gonzales, for one more thing you've done to people.

2. "many latinos prematurely rejoiced"? WTF
Not this one and all the ones I know. I guess the stupid and ignorant ones did.

Listen up latinos, whether your are black, whitee or browm or from South Amnerica or Mexico, whatever; when the non-latino media says that we are a monolithic bloc, tell them to fuck off. That's like the spanish speaking media reporting that that the "white" voting bloc has been displeased with the rulings of Jutice Roberts.

3. Not stupid and ignorant as much as uninformed and filled with pride
in a fellow latino moving on up. I tried to get the message out to friends and relations in Texas about how Gonzales was not what he seemed to be and how his policies and torture loving nature could bring harm to their Latino loved ones stationed in Iraq. There was just too much celebration about the first hispanic Attorney General. I can relate to that, because I used to be all for Hillary Clinton as the first woman president. Being more informed about her policies has me realizing that I can't vote for her just to have the first woman president in office, she's not the right choice for our country. Back to those who supported Gonzales; it's up to those of us who are in the know to get the message out but there's just so much such a small group can do to fight the lies and misinformation and non-information people are getting on the 'news' on TV.

feel that way..since gonza is Latino that it "shames Latinos" but I think it shames repukes and bushitlers..I don't care what heritage the bootlicker is.

Latinos have tons to be proud of..Americans can be freakin' ashamed of their government right now..for damn sure.

We love our country and always will but we have to get rid of the fascists in power.

Edit~ to change "our fascists" to the fascists.. They're not mine!

5. Bingo!!1 I've said the same thing about the Poppy Wingnut-minority scam
What Poppy started with the Clarence THOMAS nomination: Rethugs nominating a token minority to put Dems in the supposed bind of opposing a member of one of our constituency groups.

We got sidetracked into attacking THOMAS, ESTRADA, GONZALES as puppets and houseboys.

SHUMER cut through the crap and launched the offensive of: We don't CARE whether you are a puppet or a houseboy: You claim to be a WINGNUT, and THAT's what we're opposing you for!!1

They're bought and paid for and in gonza's case for years and years under bushit control. They're traitors to their country and to whatever they have left of their soul.
